McJob
On behalf of its 67,000 employees, McDonald’s is working hard to correct the negative perceptions of what it’s like to work at McDonald’s. High profile signatories from the worlds of business, education and retail are backing McDonald’s petition to change the Oxford Dictionary definition of “McJob” which currently reads “an unstimulating low-paid job with few prospects”. Public support for the campaign is high with 2/3 stating that they would feel demeaned if their job was defined in this way.
Comments from Government Skills Envoy Sir Digby Jones
“Service sector employers such as McDonald’s recognise the importance of investing in learning and development opportunities for their employees, and the jobs and careers they provide should be respected and valued, not written off. McDonald’s has been named one of the Financial Times’ top 50 Best UK Workplaces 2007 which is testament to these standards.”
