1. Is your chicken halal in Russia and United Arab Emirates....?
Thank you for your question. Make Up Your Own Mind has been set up specifically to answer questions about McDonald's within the UK so it is hard for us to answer specific questions about other markets. (April 2010)

2. Do you still support the IRA by giving them a percentage of your profit?
McDonald's does not, and never has, funded the IRA. This story is based on an old urban myth that dates back to the 1970's when McDonald's first opened up shop in the UK. The payslips used for UK staff at that time were imported from the USA, and included printed reference to the American equivalent to NI pension contributions - the 'Individual Retirement Account' - or 'IRA' for short. The rumour that McDonald's donated to the IRA terrorist group arises from this misunderstanding.

3. Why can I never get a plain hamburger? I like just the meat, nothing else on it, yet your employeers do not seem to understand this concept. One time I even repeated myself four times (the receipt said four times, PLAIN hamburger) yet it still had cheese! Is this some sort of conspiracy?
McDonald's apologises for the fact that your keep receiving an incorrect order. There is no reason why this should be the case; and certainly no conspiracy. The staff are trained to repeat your order back to you to ensure that this does not happen. Your request for bespoke hamburger is a grill order and this information should be relayed to the manager who in turn tells the kitchen staff. If this keeps happening, especially if in a specific restaurant, please let the Customer Services team know on 08705 244622 and they will look into the matter on your behalf. (June 2007)

4. Is the rumour true that 1p from the sale of each burger in the USA is donated to NORAID?
If you are referring to the rumour that McDonald's has funded the IRA, we can categorically say that there has never been any truth to this whatsoever. This unpleasant urban myth dates back to the 1970's when McDonald's first opened in the UK. The payslips used for UK staff at that time were imported from the USA, and included a printed reference to the American equivalent to NI pension contributions i.e. the 'Individual Retirement Account' or 'IRA' for short. The rumour that McDonald's donated to the IRA terrorist group arises from this misunderstanding. (August 2008)

5. When questions are regarding additives in burgers, the answer is something like "we only use 100 percent beef". Beef patties do not constitute the entire burger, nor does the given answer apply to chicken burgers. If 100 percent beef with no additives implies top quality, is the myriad of additives such as flavour enhancers, artificial colours, preservatives etc. in most other McDonald’s products less than desirable to anyone who cares for their health and the quality of their food?
Thank you for your question. McDonald’s Hamburger patties are made from 100 per cent beef and nothing else, but a pinch of salt and pepper added after cooking for taste. In relation to McDonalds Chicken Burgers, the only meat used across all of the chicken menu items is carefully deboned chicken breast. All the chicken used is traceable right back to the farms on which the birds were raised and the highest standards are assured with rigorous quality checks and inspections. Regarding additives in general and their appearance in other ingredients, it is McDonald's policy to minimise the use of food additives and to use natural additives wherever possible. It is also important to note that McDonald's does not use MSG (Monosodium Glutamate), cyclamates, or tartrazine in its food items. All McDonald's food and ingredients information is available online in the ‘Nutrition’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (May 2009)

6. You have been admirably transparent on the conditions your beef cattle and laying hens live under. However I would like to see a quality scout visit to a broiler or meat chicken farm to see if the same high standards are upheld there too.
Thank you for your feedback - it is great to know that McDonald's efforts to run its UK business in an open and transparent way are appreciated by customers. With regards McDonald’s chicken farms this is an area we know people are very interested in, and we are looking to expand the role of Quality Scouts. In the meantime, you might be interested to know that our broiler chickens are all raised under conditions that meet high standards monitored by the Assured Chicken Production regulations. The British Poultry Council also sets high standards for chicken welfare, which is monitored through a set of regulations called Assured Chicken Production (ACP). All suppliers that work with McDonald's must adhere to these standards and procedures as well as McDonald's own Agricultural Assurance Programme. (August 2009)

7. I'm a 15 year old student taking my GCSE's (I am an A/B grade student) and I'm really struggling at what to pick for my A-Levels. It's only recently that I have considered forgetting further education and working for McDonalds. I would possibly like this to turn into my full-time job. I'm worried that I may be wasting the grades I have now just to go into this job. What is the best way to go about joining and which role will be best for me? I obviously would like to be higher up eventually.

I know McDonalds has got a sponsorship certificate from the UK home office. Is McDonalds sponsoring me after the expiration of my visa if I selected for the Trainee Business Manager position?

10. Do you sell the fat you make your french fries with to the public? The flavour is miraculous.
McDonald's French fries are cooked in a non-hydrogenated vegetable oil that is a blend of High Oleic Sunflower Oil, High Oleic Rapeseed Oil and standard Rapeseed Oil. Additionally McDonald’s UK delivery fleet is run on 100 percent bio diesel that's made from recycling its used cooking oil. (August 2010)
