91. Why did McDonalds fight so hard to stop the Govt bringing in the minimum wage both here and in the states? Is it because you dont care about people apart form getting every penny for your shareholders?
McDonald's does not and has not opposed the minimum wage. In fact, all McDonald's employees are paid an appropriate wage, at or above the government's minimum wage figure. So for example, in company owned restaurants, the average hourly rate of pay for employees is £5.30. This rises when employees are with the company for a specific amount of time, plus there are other benefits that are offered by the company such as extensive training, discounts and in some cases life assurance and a pension scheme. 99. What do you do to control your franchises? I have experienced cold food, hair in food, poorly constructed sandwiches and restaurants not using the time control markers for food on the hot plates. The standards from site to site vary dramatically as does the response from complaining about things.
The McDonald's franchisees follow the same procedures as company restaurants and must adhere to the same standards. A representative from McDonald's is appointed to audit and assess a franchised restaurant in the same way that a company restaurant is measured. Franchised stores are also part of the mystery shopper programme. (July 2007)
