2. Why do I get served non-fresh precooked and left in the oven chewy fish when I order fillet-o-fish burgers? When I mention this at time of ordering I'm often told no pre-cooked burgers are kept whilst the till staff point to the collection trays behind them. Why do they often deny that they have an oven behind somewhere out of customer site?
Thank you for your question and sorry for our slow response, this was due to some recent technical updates to the site, which resulted in a delay in answering questions. There are very strict rules in place and all burgers and sandwiches must be sold within ten minutes, otherwise they are discarded and fresh orders will be prepared. This is monitored using a timecard system. If you receive food that is not up to the high standards set by McDonald's, please bring it to the attention of the restaurant manager who will arrange for a fresh order to be prepared for you. The Filet-o-Fish is never pre-cooked before it is frozen. In fact it is freshly cooked in a new non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil. (November 2008)

5. I was just wondering seeing as your hamburgers are made out of just beef, nothing else just 100% beef - if your fillet o fish was also made out of just beef, nothing else just 100% beef because if it is, surely that is false advertising as fish is different to beef??
Whilst it is true that all the burgers which contain beef are made from 100 percent beef, the same cannot be said for the Filet-o-Fish, or the chicken and Vegetable burgers for that matter. McDonald's Filet-o-Fish is prepared using Alaskan Pollock fish, which is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries. For a full list of ingredients of all McDonald’s food items, please take a look at the ‘Ingredients List’ in the ‘Eat Smart’ section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (August 2008)

6. I was reading throught your questions and answers i found mistakes in some of your answers regards to your fish product. For fish products Imam doesnt has to give it blessing and all fish products are Halal regardless of how they are sloughter. I would also like to ask that, do you use no veg products for your fries?
Thank you for the information regarding fish and Halal, and apologies for the delay in responding. Currently, the only Halal certified food items on the McDonald's menu are chicken-based, and are only available in the Southall restaurant. Regarding the French Fries, McDonald's French Fries are cooked in vegetable oil and have been for many years. Recently, McDonald’s has changed its oil. The new oil, a blend of sunflower and rapeseed, has been carefully developed to ensure it does not raise saturated fat content. This GM-free cooking oil also reduces the levels of Trans Fatty Acids (TFAs) to their lowest possible. (May 2008)

Firstly, many apologies for the very slow response to your question, as the site went through a few changes, some questions had slipped through the net, so thank you for your patience. Regarding the Filet-o-Fish, this is a personal choice. Some vegetarians eat fish, while others do not. However, McDonald's Filet-o-Fish is cooked in vegetable oil and apart from the fish itself, does not contain any other animal flesh or by-product.

11. Could you please tell me whether your french fries have any animal products contained in them through flavouring or during the cooking process? Also, is your Filet-O-Fish free from meat products in both the flavouring and cooking process? Kind Regards.
You will be happy to know that the French Fries sold in McDonald's UK are suitable for vegetarians, and have recently been accredited by the Vegetarian Society. You can read more about this by clicking on the 'Vegetarian Fries' link in the 'McDonald's News' section on this site. The Filet-o-Fish does not contain any meat ingredients; however, it is not certified as being suitable for vegetarians due to the oil filtering process in restaurants. (December 2007)

15. Why do you put a cheese slice on your Fillet-o-fish burger, when it is well documented by acclaimed chefs the world over that the majority of fish does not taste nice with cheese? Does this ignorance towards pleasant pallatable conbinations resonate throughtout the rest of the McDonalds menu?
The Filet-o-Fish was introduced in 1963 by a McDonald's franchise in Cincinnati. It made its UK appearance when the first store opened in 1974 and has always been prepared with a half slice of cheese. Thousands of people every day enjoy this product just the way it is. The entire menu is placed under the scrutiny of the company's greatest critics - its customers and if they don't enjoy the food then it's removed from the menu. You can always ask for a Filet-O-Fish to be made up for you without the cheese if you would prefer it that way. (November 2007)
