- 46. i've been on a few anit-McDonalds website, where people have been saying things about Mcdonalds like you are destroying the rainforest and there are allegations of child labor in China to create happy meal toys what do you say and do to the people who say these things?
-
As the market leader, McDonald’s is often the focus for any criticism that might be levelled, fairly or unfairly, at the industry. McDonald’s has many standards and procedures in place that meet and exceed legislation across all of its operations from food supply to employee care. To answer the two specific concerns that you have raised: McDonald’s globally will not purchase beef that’s been produced from recently de-forested areas of the Amazon Rainforest and this has been the case for some time. The company constantly strives to use its purchasing power for good as witnessed by the recent introduction of Rainforest Alliance coffee, for example. As to the allegation that McDonald’s uses child labour in the production of Happy Meal toys, all suppliers across the world undertake a rigorous audit before being approved as a McDonald’s supplier. This audit is designed to ensure that the working conditions comply with and exceed legal requirements.
