16. I recently visited Mc Donalds with my son and was appaled at the person serving constantly talking off his hat, scratching his head and basically showing off and serving food without even washing his hands. What basic food hygine techniques are provided for trainees and employees? Deborah
All restaurant staff receive hygiene training when they start work. This training, and the awareness of the importance of hygiene, continues throughout their employment with McDonald’s. Managers and staff are extremely vigilant when food is being prepared. However, If you ever feel that you have received a below par service, please do not hesitate to contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244622 so they can investigate any issues on your behalf.

17. do you lot use seperate oil for frying fish, meat and chips or the same oil for everything? And do you use ant animal products or alcohol in your ice creams, shakes and bun? Please do reply!!
All McDonald’s restaurants have dedicated fryers for cooking the fish products. Generally, when it comes to filtering oil, McDonald’s has two different types of filtering processes - although the company does not maintain a central record of the processes used in each restaurant. One process is self-filtering where oil will not be mixed from one fryer to another. The second filtering process uses the same unit across all fryers but the fryers are filtered in a specific order. So the French Fries fryer is filtered first, followed by the Veggie Deluxe fryer, the Apple Pies fryer, the chicken fryer and then the Filet-o-Fish fryer. The machine is thoroughly cleaned after every filtering session. A full list of ingredients is available in the 'Eat Smart' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

19. is your food cooked fresh when people order it or do you cook it and leave it on the side? because ive had a cold burger from McDonalds before and a chicken burger with a black thing init
Sorry to hear that your burger was cold. Once the sandwiches are prepared, they are kept in a heated area between the front counter and the kitchen. If they are not sold within ten minutes they are disposed of. If you are unhappy with the temperature of your burger, just return it to the staff at the counter and they will be happy to prepare you another. If you would like to lodge a formal complaint, please contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244 622.

20. Hello, I work in an office of 989 people. We would like to have our office lunches daily from McDonalds. Could you please tell me how long it would take to order 989 meals because we only have 45 minutes for lunch. By the way, 58 of our staff are vegetarian. Thanks Paul
Thanks for the question. It would take a couple of minutes to 'take' the order for these lunches. Providing you don't all line up and order individually, of course. How long the orders would take to 'make' is another matter. If these meals were pre-ordered altogether, you would have to stagger your lunch evenly over a period of time. If this is done it would take 12 to 14 staff members approximately four hours to make 931 Big Mac Meals (medium French Fries and medium Coke) and 58 Vegetarian Deluxe Meals (medium French Fries and medium Coke). 21. are your beef patties supposed come with blood on them because when i recieved the burger it was bleeding and when i ate it, it still tasted good. However it made me terribly ill that i was sick for weeks.
McDonald's would like to apologise for this. This should not have happened. The cooking procedures for all the menu items are very carefully tested and monitored by external and internal experts in food safety on a regular basis so that the risk of any such food issues is negligible and each patty has its own defined cooking instructions. For example, a quarter pounder patty is cooked for two minutes using the bespoke double-sided hot plates reaching temperatures of 177 degrees on its lower surface and 218 degrees on the top plates during the cooking process. If you should experience this again, please speak to the restaurant manager or contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244 622 or visit the ‘Contact Us’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. 22. Please can you tell me if there is a separation between the meat and vegeterian food. If so does it specifically show the customers that there is separation between the two. If not then how can the vegeterian products be vegeterian as it is contaminated with the meat products.
Although the same grills are used for cooking breakfast and the main menu, special precautions are taken to avoid issues of meat cross contamination. The grills are cleaned down between cooking pork products and beef products and separate colour-coded cooking and serving utensils are used for the preparation of different foods. (October 2007)

23. When I visit your restaurants I always ask for a special order big mac or quarter pounder with cheese as I do not like the gerkins etc that also come in them. Why do these burgers tend to take ages to cook sometime upto 10 minutes I have waited for my order when these burgers are being made all the time?!
The company would like to apologise for this. McDonald's aims to serve food fast. If this is not the case please talk to the restaurant management so that they can look into this for you. Please note that food made up specially may take a little longer to prepare.

25. folloowing an outbreak of ecoli in November 2006 in which a McDonalds in Scotland was implicated you stated that you had increased your cooking times. How long do you now cook your burgers for?
The McDonald's restaurants in Scotland were never implicated in the outbreak of Ecoli in 2006. The cooking procedures for all the menu items are very carefully tested and monitored by external and internal experts in food safety on a regular basis so that the risk of any such food issues is negligible and each patty has its own defined cooking instructions. 26. Why are your burgers always upside down when you unwrap them?
This is because of the technique in how the hamburgers are wrapped when they have been prepared. The opening to the wrapping is at the bottom, so that as the hamburger is placed in the warming bin, they lock in the heat and keep their shape. This then leads to you turning it over so you can slowly or rapidly open it up and enjoy. (September 2007)

27. I just wanted to ask why when you ask for your burger meal it invariably is served to you completly cold. Are the burgers prepared in advance and left for collection at bust periods? Other than that I must say that your staff in our local restarants do a fantastic job and are often working under very busy conditions.
Thanks for your feedback! With regard to the cold burger meal, no matter what McDonald's menu item you order, if it should be served hot, then that’s how you should receive it. McDonald's pre-prepares some of the menu items so that they can be served to customers quickly. The amount pre-prepared is based on the knowledge of demand of each individual restaurant. However, there are very strict rules in place and burgers must be sold within ten minutes, otherwise they are discarded. This is monitored using a timecard system. If you have received any food that you feel is unsatisfactory in any way please talk to the restaurant manager, or phone Customer Services on 08705 244 622. (June 2007)

28. Your restaurants sometimes pre-cook burgers in anticipation of busy periods, keeping them warm in a heated 'holding area'. What are your company's guidelines for how long a burger should remain there before being discarded as unsuitable for sale/consumption?
Once sandwiches are prepared, they are kept in a heated area between the front counter and the kitchen to ensure that they remain hot and fresh. They must be sold within ten minutes, otherwise they are disposed of. A timecard system is used to help manage this. Fries must be sold within five minutes of being cooked and all salads have a limited holding time to keep them tasting fresh.

30. If, as you say, all your burgers are cooked on hot plates, why do they get put into Microwaves? You can't deny this as I have seen this with my own eyes.
If burgers are being placed in the microwave at your local restaurant then this is not an approved procedure; please contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244622 so that the matter can be investigated fully. The microwaves in McDonald's restaurants should only be used to make porridge, and heat the pancakes and some of the Deli sandwich fillings. (June 2007)
