Many parents and their children visit McDonald's as a real treat for the family. Time and effort is put into creating an environment that children can have a great time without the normal constraints placed on them in other restaurants. Care and attention is also placed on contents of the children's menu items from the use of favourite characters on fruit bags through to the nutritional content of Chicken McNuggets, for example. So, in a nutshell, Happy Meals make children happy and that in turn makes their parents happy - hence the name. (December 2006)

Thanks for the interesting question. While some Happy Meals run all over the world, the overall calendar of Happy Meals differs from country to country. Each license choice is based on research and trends in that particular country.

Nutritionists say that individual food items are not ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’. It’s a matter of variation, moderation, balance and physical activity in your overall diet that counts. McDonald's does not comment on other companies. However, nutritional information can be found on the back of tray liners in McDonald's restaurants and online at www.mcdonaldsmenu.info. (June 2007)

During the Disney Pixar Cars Happy Meal promotion there were eight different Cars characters available. However there were two versions of the character Lightning McQueen- one where he was muddy and another where he was clean. There were three different colour versions of Ramone - blue, green and yellow - to represent the fact that he changed his bodywork several times in the movie.

The Crazy Frog toy was part of the music Happy Meal Promotions in 2006 and unfortunately is no longer running. To see what toys are currently available, visit www.mcdonalds.co.uk, click on the ‘Kidszone’ section and then on the Happy Meal button. These toys are subject to availability so to be sure about what is on offer at Purley Way, you may want to give them a ring first. I know you can get them in the States as I lived there for 10 years. I think it would go down well with parents if you introduced the toys for under 3's. I would be delighted!

Research conducted by McDonald’s UK shows that the majority of parents do not begin to bring the younger members of the family to McDonald’s restaurants until they are approximately three years old. With this information in mind, the company offers toys suitable for children over three.

Many of McDonald’s family customers view a trip to the restaurants as a treat that their children enjoy. Part of that treat is the toy and the tie-ins with their favourite characters. So, every Happy Meal consists of four component parts: an entrée, a side order, a drink and a toy. The toys can also be purchased separately without buying the food.

Six years ago my little girl had her 2nd birthday party at McDonalds in Coventry, part of her birthday gift was a beanie toy dog, which was brown & baige in colour. She loved it so much she took it everywere she went, she named it "Wowo", after five years of sneaking Wowo away from her at night to wash & dry it before she woke up, she finaly took it on holiday with her, were she lost Wowo. I'm trying to find out if you know where I can purchase the same toy again for her birthday this year.

Sorry to hear that you daughter has misplaced her much loved toy. Unfortunately, the company no longer has any Beanie Toys left in storage, nor any plans for their return in the near future. However, you might like to check with the manufacturers of Beanie Toys at www.ty.com. they might have a similar toy to replace ‘Wowo’. Good luck!

McDonald’s is sorry to hear that you missed out on getting the full set of toys. McDonald’s always orders equal amounts of each of the toys in a range. The Iz Happy Meal was very popular and some restaurants did run out of the toys a few days early. The average McDonald’s UK restaurant sells 1,700 Happy Meals per week. It is very difficult to break this down to an hourly amount because of the changeable sales trends during the day.

The contract between McDonald's and Disney was a ten year agreement which expires at the end of this year, 2006. In the meantime, McDonald’s has announced a deal with DreamWorks and are also looking at opportunities with other entertainment companies. So you’ll have to wait and see what the new toys will be.

McDonald’s is currently looking at different Happy Meal bundles including one with the dessert as part of the meal based on experience from around the world. If the trials prove successful, the new bundles might be introduced in the UK next year. McDonald’s prices and menu options do vary across different countries because costs such as food ingredients, rent, and labour can differ widely in various parts of the world.

Ronald McDonald’s four friends. Hamburglar, Grimace, Birdie and Mayor McCheese no longer feature in marketing activities in the UK, and there are currently no plans to re-introduce them. However, they can still be seen abroad in some countries. McDonald’s strives to create toys that will appeal to kids today, although since many ‘old-school’ kids’ gear is making a come back, you may see some toys you recognise.
