- 16. I have read in several sources that McDonnald's Chickem McNuggets contain amounts of butane. Supposedly, this is to help preserve freshness. Is this really necessary, considering butane is poisionous?

This is a myth. There is no butane in any of McDonald's products. The Chicken McNuggets are made from carefully deboned chicken breast meat, which is coated in a specially seasoned batter. The ingredients for the Chicken McNuggets are as follows:

Chicken McNuggets are made from deboned chicken breast meat, which is then minced. A flavoured marinade is then added and mixed in. The minced chicken meat is shaped into McNuggets and coated with the specially seasoned batter, flash fried and frozen. The McNuggets are supplied to the restaurants frozen, and then cooked from frozen in partially hydrogenated 100 percent rapeseed oil.

McDonald's finds that the assessment of its business in the books ‘Fast Food Nation and ‘Chew on This’ is harsh, and the company rebuts the allegations that they propose. McDonald's feels that the information they contain is far removed from the facts. The progress that McDonald's has made in its procedures and practises throughout the entire business is substantial, and is a reflection of the progressive and modern direction that the business has been heading in. The only meat that McDonald’s uses in its McNuggets, McChicken Premiere and McChicken Sandwich is carefully deboned chicken breast meat. In the Filet-o-Fish, McDonald’s now uses hoki fish to sustain the depleting numbers of cod. Hoki is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries, and at the moment comes from the seas around New Zealand. And, no, there is absolutely no lard in the milkshakes.
NOVEMBER 07 UPDATE:
From mid November 2007, McDonald's Filet-o-Fish will be prepared using Alaskan Pollock fish, which is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries. Fish Fingers will continue to be made from Hoki, also sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries.

You're clearly aware that this just means its 100% cow/chicken...and therefore its most likely the unwanted poor quality cuts that remain are just reformed to create your food. Chicken breast in your nuggets? Do you think people are completely stupid? The chicken content is a solid paste at most.

McDonald’s doesn’t lie about food content. 100 percent beef is used in the burgers and only carefully deboned chicken breast is indeed used in the Chicken McNuggets. Both the beef and the chicken are traceable right back to the farms on which the livestock was raised. All McDonald’s UK poultry suppliers are accredited by the nationally recognised Farm Assurance Scheme, Assured Chicken Production. This ensures full control over all aspects of chicken farming, including feed and animal welfare. The feed used for rearing chickens is not genetically modified and is free from antibiotic growth promoters.

McDonald's isn't lying: the meat used in our Chicken McNuggets is 100 percent white breast chicken meat. There are no chicken feet, beaks or any other parts of a chicken present; just breast meat. There are many rumours and urban myths about McDonald's, but if you want further information, do visit the Quality Scouts section of this site, where you can see the full, filmed report of how Chicken McNuggets are produced - as investigated by Charlotte, a teacher and mother who visited the McNuggets supplier on an independent, unpaid basis (as do all the Scouts) to see for herself.
