- 106. In the past few years, Burger King has revitalized their King character, and used him, as well as other characters, in a lot of really funny commercials. McDonalds has been totally blown out of the water in the advertising department by this... does McDonalds have any plans to take similar steps to produce commercials that are actually entertaining or to utilize their many characters in a way that would appeal to the full spectrum of people, rather than just children?
-
McDonald's is sorry to hear that you don't rate its advertising as highly as other's. The company spends a lot of time and effort trying to create advertising that communicates the products and offers available in a way that people like. Hopefully, in the future, they'll be some McDonald's advertising that you can enjoy too.

Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 107. hi i'm reseaching a project for college about fast food advertising. i wanted to ask what your reseach methods are for finding out if your t.v commercials were successful? and would you say that your using 'pester power' as a way of profiting from children? thankyou for your time.

McDonald's uses a mix of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques to assess effectiveness of TV campaigns. The company conducts focus groups amongst the pertinent target audience prior to a campaign launch to inform development of scripts/creative material, and quantitative post-tracking amongst a national sample of consumers to measure ad awareness, comprehension of messages, enjoyment/engagement and ad motivation. The rules and regulations governing advertising to children has disallowed the use of 'pester power' as a marketing technique for many years. (June 2007)

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 108. Do you think it is unfair to use childrens favourite characters to promote McDonalds Happy Meals, as children are so easily influenced towards a product by things such as these?
-
The Happy Meal is all about fun. It's an iconic part of the meal and extremely popular with customers. McDonald's are driven by their customers and will not be forced into doing something which would be unfavorable to mums, dads and kids across the UK. There are a greater variety of options on the Happy Meal menu than ever before-accompanied by comprehensive nutritional information, allowing parents to make informed choices about what their children eat. Parents can also purchase the toy separately too.

-
McDonald's is unclear about your definition of healthy or unhealthy and hence, your calculations on advertising spend. Many nutritionists say that individual food items are not good or bad; it's a matter of variation, moderation, and physical activity in an individual's overall diet that counts. McDonald's is a responsible advertiser that certainly promotes its core products as part of its communications mix but also spends considerable sums of money supporting such initiatives as its community football coaching programme and balanced active lifestyles for children, for example. Surely, hamburger heists must carry a limited maximum sentance - possibly only community service and/or a small fine - and I haven't seen him in ages.
-
No, the Hamburglar is not in prison. Ronald McDonald has four friends. Hamburglar, Grimace, Birdie and Mayor McCheese. In the UK Ronald is the only one who currently features in any adverts or marketing activities but Hamburglar can still be seen in other countries. (June 2007)

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 112. How do you justify targetting so much of your marketing at children who are unable to make an informed choice about diet?
-
McDonald's realises that marketing to children is a sensitive issue and the company is careful to talk to children in a responsible way. McDonald's bases a lot of its decisions about the right messages for children on conversations with mums, to ensure that they are comfortable with the messages we communicate to their children. And these mums have said in the research conducted by McDonald's that they are happy with their children being given informative food messages, messages that help stimulate their imagination and also that encourage them to take part in physical activity. Like all advertisers, McDonald's advertisements are subject to the advertising Codes of Practice.

Also do you not think it is wrong that you have a character who is aimed at pre teens? Surely this market shouldn't be targeted by anyone for advertising.
-
McDonald's takes the welfare of animals very seriously. For this reason, McDonald's refuses to work with any supplier that does not adhere to the company’s high standards, and those required by UK and EU legislation. Every step in the supply chain is monitored according to the McDonald's Agricultural Assurance programme. This kind of commitment is also carried through in relation to your second question. It sounds as if you might be referring to Ronald McDonald. Ronald McDonald is not used in food advertising in the UK. He sometimes appears on the Happy Meal packaging and in person at football events across the UK in order to inform children about balanced food choices and the importance of being active. McDonald's realises that marketing to children is a sensitive issue and the company is careful to talk to children in a responsible way. McDonald's bases a lot of its decisions about the right messages for children on conversations with mums to ensure that they are comfortable with the messages communicated to their children. You may also be aware that the Food Standards Agency has devised a nutritional model that profiles food by its fat, salt and sugar content and will inform which products can or can't be advertised directly to children. Like all advertisers, McDonald's advertisements are subject to the advertising Codes of Practice.

-
It’s the McDonald’s marketing team.
The team works on different areas of the menu, for example, the Breakfast menu, the Main menu and Happy Meals. For each year, the company will construct a plan to implement the new menu items that are primed for launch, and strategise an advertising campaign that would provide support and awareness for the new items.

The majority of items on the Happy Meal menu are rated as not being high in fat, salt and sugar according to the nutrient profiling model, developed by the Food Standards Agency, which is used to determine which foods can or cannot be advertised to children. What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 120. why do you target young children with addictive and unhealthy food? andy(18), brighton

McDonald’s disagrees with your comments about the food being “addictive and unhealthy junk”. It uses high quality ingredients and, as nutritionists usually prefer to say, individual food items are neither ‘healthy’ nor ‘unhealthy’. McDonald’s has always been aware of the context in which it operates and the need for it to meet the requirements of society and customers in the food and experience that it provides. That’s why over recent years, the company has added new choices to its menu, such as Organic Semi-Skimmed Milk, Orange Juice, Vittel Water, Fruit Bags and Carrot Sticks, changed the recipes of popular food items such as Chicken McNuggets to reduce salt, fat and sugar and introduced better nutritional information without undermining the great taste that people know and love. You may be aware that the Food Standards Agency has devised a nutritional model that profiles food by its fat, salt and sugar content and will inform which products can or can’t be advertised directly to children. The majority of Happy Meal items (with the exception of the Cheeseburger, Milkshakes and non-diet fizzy drinks) are all rated as not being high in fat, salt and sugar.
