- 2506. If you come to work early, are you allowed to clock in before your shift starts?
-
Thank you for your question. If the manager needs you to begin work early then yes, you are allowed to clock in. However, if you are not needed until your scheduled shift start time, then you will not be able clock in until then.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2507. I'm doing a work for school and i need to know how do you prepare your food? do you do it ahead or just when you get the order?
-
Thank you for your question. McDonald's aims to serve food hot and fresh at all times. McDonald's rules are clear that once sandwiches or burgers are prepared, they must be sold within their holding time otherwise they are disposed of. The holding time for each product varies depending on the type of food. For example, a burger or sandwich is held for ten minutes and French Fries are held for five minutes, whereas the holding time for a salad will be up to eight hours in the fridge. Our website has information that you may find helpful, particularly the information on stock control: http://www.mcdonalds.co.uk/static/pdf/aboutus/education/mcd_stock_control.pdf

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2510. I think it's great that you indicate how much of your packaging is recyclable but what I don't understand is why you don't have separate bins for this packaging in your restaurants - as far as I can tell it all goes into one bin and doesn't get recycled. I take it home to recycle but I have never seen anyone else do that - which seems wrong!
-
McDonald's takes environmental responsibilities very seriously and is committed to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, through recycling, recovery, design improvements and re-use. McDonald’s recycles approximately a quarter of all waste produced at most restaurants through the separation of cardboard and used cooking oil. Unfortunately recycling customer waste is very difficult in the UK, as paper waste that has food residue is not accepted at recycling facilities, and nor are many types of plastic. So rather than send waste to landfill we work hard to 'recover' as much as possible. For example, waste from 11 McDonald's restaurants in Sheffield and 25 in London is currently being diverted from landfill and sent to an energy-from-waste facility. This project is proving so successful for food-contaminated waste that the company is now looking to expand this project to other parts of the country, where the facilities exist. McDonald's is also currently investigating and trialing various different cleansing /separation techniques in regional areas to determine if waste can be diverted from landfill utilising different technologies other than energy from waste.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2512. I find it hard to believe that your trials have concluded that only a small percentage of people are interested in a halal food option, as there is a huge demand. The Halal food market is booming, with Halal fast food stores now numbering in excess of 2,500 stores in the UK. I would be very interested to know what is the future of halal food in McDonald restaurants - or should I start a petition on facebook, maybe to show you the actual interest in this?

The McDonald’s business is about serving good tasty food, fast. We serve over 2.5million customers a day and we do this by offering the same menu of consistent, quality food at each one of our 1,200 UK restaurants. The reality is that currently our kitchens, cooking procedures and supply chain just aren’t built to offer specialist food options such as Halal. We appreciate that this decision will be disappointing for customers who want McDonald’s to offer Halal in the UK, but we have to focus on doing what will be most popular with the majority of our customers and that means sticking to our existing menu and not offering Halal food at present.

As you are clearly aware, McDonald’s have recently attained Awarding Body Status; this means that the company can develop and award qualifications monitored by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). However in order to partake in these courses you must be an employee of the company. If you are interested in applying for a job for McDonald’s please go to the ‘Careers’ link on www.mcdonalds.co.uk for more information on available roles and the application process. If you are already an employee of McDonald’s then you can undertake GCSE level qualifications in English and Maths free of charge via on-line learning available on ‘Our Lounge’, with ongoing support and guidance with an online tutor. These nationally recognised qualifications are gained in accredited exam centre restaurants. McDonald’s are hoping that this will make a significant difference to the lives of staff who did not obtain these qualifications whilst in the education system.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2515. Do you pay your staff?
-
Yes. McDonald’s is one of the biggest employers and trainers of young people in the UK and all employees are paid the appropriate amount at or above the government’s minimum wage. For example, in company-owned restaurants, the average hourly rate of pay for employees (at December 2005) was £5.30. Currently over 83 percent of employees earn above the minimum wage.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2516. Are your chickens raised in sheds or are they allowed to roam free?
-
The chickens used for meat in McDonald’s products are called broilers, and are not free-range, but they are reared under conditions that meet high standards, monitored by the Assured Chicken Production regulations. The British Poultry Council also sets high standards for chicken welfare, which is monitored through a set of regulations called Assured Chicken Production (ACP). All suppliers that work with McDonald's must adhere to these standards and procedures as well as McDonald's own strict protocols. You may be interested to know that McDonald's is constantly monitoring the situation with regard to the use and availability of free-range meat. There are huge differences in the costs of producing free-range chickens, compared with more common farming systems. McDonald's UK has seriously looked at all the current available options, and currently there aren’t enough farms to supply the birds, and there just isn't enough land in the UK for all the chicken houses and fields required. In the meantime, McDonald's, like other responsible food businesses, is concentrating on working with producers and welfare experts to provide and good welfare conditions for the birds that allow them to display their natural behaviour in comfortable surroundings. To this end the company is a co-sponsor of The Food Animal Initiative, which is running a research project looking into the commercial viability of free-range chicken meat production.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2520. Why are more sites imposing parking limitations? - Your Redditch McDrive has recently put up signs stating 75mins free, no return within 120 mins with £150 fines and clamping etc. I could understand if it was near a city centre with non-customers parking there all the time but its an out of town site are so are the others I've seen. I travel across the country for business and often use your sites for breakfast or lunch and use the wifi to catch up on work so I don't feel its always enough time.

As a company, putting in place enforcements within our car parks was only done after careful consideration. Primarily, McDonald’s use parking measures to ensure there are spaces available for our customers’ vehicles, as well as to deter unwarranted or unreasonably prolonged parking. The regulations and signs at the restaurant clearly state our policy and the relevant charges. If you wish to make a complaint, you can either call Customer Services on 08705 244 622 so that the matter can be fully investigated. Alternatively, you can use the 'Contact Us' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. If you would prefer to write the address you need is as follows: McDonald's Restaurants, 11-59 High Road, East Finchley, London W2 8AW.
