361. Hi, I was wanting to know about your fish fingers and your filet o fish burger. I would like to know if they are cooked in the same oil as your meet products or are they cooked seperately.
Thanks for your question. All of our products are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our File-o-Fish, Fish Fingers, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. These vats are exclusively for the purpose of cooking a specific product and that product alone. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the 100% vegetable oil used to cook each product can come into contact with oil used to cook chicken products during the oil filtering process. McDonald’s can assure you that whilst every possible precaution is taken in order to prevent cross contamination during this filtering process, we cannot guarantee this will not occur. 363. Why are SOME Mcdonalds stores halal. You say that their is no differnece between halal or non halal if this is the case then why is it halal.
We're sorry, you must be thinking of another restaurant chain. No McDonald's restaurants in the UK serve a different menu and there are no specific, Halal-certified restaurants. (February 2011)

Thanks for your question. We understand that fish itself is not considered halal or haram, but we can confirm that the Filet-O-Fish does not contain any meat ingredients and is cooked in 100% vegetable oil, separately from other products. (February 2011)

366. i would like to know if your cooking oil is nut free as my granddaughter cant eat anything to with nuts etc
Thanks for your question. The cooking oil used in McDonald's UK restaurants does not contain any form of nut ingredients. It is a non-hydrogenated vegetable oil that is a blend of High Oleic Sunflower Oil, High Oleic Rapeseed Oil and standard Rapeseed Oil. Food allergies are a major priority at McDonald's and this concern has seen the company working closely with the Anaphylaxis Campaign - if you have not done so already, you should contact this organisation for support and advice. In all standard McDonald's UK restaurants no items on the menu contain nuts as ingredients, and this includes the entire Breakfast Menu, all the burgers, the Chicken McNuggets, McChicken Sandwiches, the Filet-o-Fish and the French Fries. The full nutritional breakdown and allergen information for all McDonald’s food can be found in the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (February 2011)

367. Does McDonalds serve Halal meat in Southall, London? If not, why has it stopped?
Thanks for your question. No it doesn’t, there was a trial in 2009 at the Southall Restaurant but this has now finished, and because the trial wasn't successful we have no current plans to introduce halal-certified meat in the UK. Although none of McDonald's products carry Halal certification, all are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our File-o-Fish, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. 369. Do mcdonalds fries contain extracts of beer? There are mixed opinions about this, not sure what to believe. Also, do any of the vegeterian foods get fried in the same oil as non-veg foods?
Thanks for your question. No, McDonald’s French Fries do not contain extracts of beer. McDonald’s UK French Fries are made using Russet Burbank, Pentland Dell, Innovator and Shepody potatoes, which are chosen for their quality, taste and long shape when cut. Once at the restaurant our fries are simply cooked in dedicated frying vats in a non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil which is 100 percent suitable for vegetarians. McDonald’s French Fries are officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. All of our products are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our Filet-o-Fish, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. These vats are exclusively for the purpose of cooking a specific product and that product alone. 370. I am writing an assignment on your beef supply chain in the UK and I wanted to know: How are your beef burgers actually made? How are these transported? What happens to the rest of the carcase after taking the flank and forequarter? Thankyou
Thank you for your question. McDonald’s UK beef patties are made from whole forequarter and flank cuts of 100% British and Irish beef, by our beef supplier in Scunthorpe. Our supplier buys deboned beef from approved abattoirs across the UK and Ireland, where skilled butchers have removed the bones from the forequarter and flank. The hindquarters of the carcasses are procured by other retailers and beef processors, McDonald’s only purchase finished beef patties. Once at our supplier’s location, the beef is simply minced as they would be by any butcher, only on a larger scale; then the mince is formed into patties, immediately frozen to seal in the freshness, and packed for distribution. The beef patties are then transported by our distribution supplier’s fleet of vehicles which are run on the re-used cooking oil from the stores. Once at the McDonald’s restaurant the patties are cooked between two hotplates on bespoke clamshell grills, which help seal in the natural juices. Nothing else is added. No other binders, oils or fats, just a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning after cooking. (February 2011)

374. Your food made me Super Morbidly Obese, how come you dont write these warnings on your food.
McDonald’s works hard to promote the benefits of having a balanced and healthy diet and an active lifestyle. However it is not for McDonald’s to tell people what to eat. The menu is constantly reviewed so that it gives its customers as many options as possible. There are a number of different menu items available, all with varying calorie contents. Along with this, nutrition information is available on the tray liners in store, and in the 'Food' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk where you can find the nutrition breakdown for all products on the menu. 375. why is apple pies, fanta and smarties mcflurry not vegetarian?
Thanks for your question. McDonald’s Apple Pies are made with ingredients that are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin) and they are cooked in dedicated frying vats using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry the Apple Pies can come into contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee that cross contamination will not occur. Fanta is not suitable for vegetarians as it contains the colour Beta Carotene (which contains fish oils). The Smarties used in the Smartie McFlurry contain whey powder which the supplier cannot guarantee is suitable for vegetarians as it may contain traces of animal rennet depending on the source of the whey powder. You can find a full list of ingredients for all McDonald’s UK menu items by visiting the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (February 2011)
