393. Is fish fillet burger is Halal and is prepared with Muslim standerd and French Fries is cooked with which oil please explained because lots of issues are going on in muslim society thanks.
Thanks for your question. None of McDonald's products carry Halal certification. All of our products are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our File-o-Fish, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. These vats are exclusively for the purpose of cooking a specific product and that product alone. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the 100% vegetable oil used to cook each product can become in contact with oil used to cook meat products during the oil filtering process. McDonald’s can assure you that whilst every possible precaution is taken in order to prevent cross contamination during this filtering process, we cannot guarantee this will not occur. McDonald’s UK French Fries are made using Russet Burbank, Pentland Dell, Innovator and Shepody potatoes, which are chosen for their quality, taste and long shape when cut. The fries are not coated in any fats or substance from an animal. Once at the restaurant our fries are simply cooked in dedicated frying vats in a non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil which is 100 percent suitable for vegetarians. McDonald’s French Fries are officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. (February 2011)

396. Hi i've got a 02 questions 1.Can you please tell me where all the ''M''burger ingredience comes from such as M bun, RTE Bacon, Ementhal cheese, tomatoes, Batavia Lettuce, ''M'' sauce 2. Can you please tell where all the Chicken Legend with bacon ingredience come from?> such as the Bun, Chicken Legend, Salsa and Mayo sauce Many thanks
Thank you for your question. The M Bun used was baked by one of our bakery products supplier in Germany. The patty was made in Germany from 100% British and Irish beef. The M dressing sauce was made by one of our sauce suppliers in Germany. The Emmental Cheese slices are made by a supplier in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, whilst the tomato is processed in Wisbech, Cambs, but can be sourced from Holland, Poland, Spain, Morocco, Belgium or Italy. The Chicken Legend®’s Brown Bakehouse Roll is baked by one of our suppliers in Germany. McDonald's Chicken Legend®s patties are made by one of our chicken suppliers in Hereford using chicken breast meat. The sauce options for the Legend® are the Cool Mayo and Spicy Tomato Salsa, both are made by one of our sauce suppliers in Lancashire. With regards to ingredients found in both products, Batavia lettuce is predominantly sourced from the UK in the spring and summer months, and Spain in the autumn and winter months. However, there is also a small percentage from Morocco, Holland and France. Finally the bacon, like all our Pork products are made with British Pork, and this product is made in Bodmin, Cornwall. You can find all the ingredients, nutritional and allergen information on the McDonald’s website (www.mcdonalds.co.uk). Once on the website simply click on the Food section of the website and select your chosen product. (February 2011)

402. Why is the breakfast not served in breakfast hours? I use mcdonalds before work during the week 9am is great however saturday and sunday surely you should serve till at least 11am or 11.30am. My local mcdonalds is surely missing out as there is a pub next door serving breakfast till 12pm and a subway serving till 11am. Sort it out people we want breakfast at 11 not chips and burgers.
Thanks for your question. Breakfast ending times do vary at McDonald’s restaurants and most of our restaurants stop serving breakfast at 10.30. There are a few restaurants who serve breakfast until 11am on a Sunday only. Please contact the restaurant about their opening times to avoid disappointment. (February 2011)

403. I am doing a research about McDonalds in Uk as a response to D&AD brief about your restaurants. Due to this, I've read in your report that 55% of your supplies come from farms in England and Northern Ireland; I would like to know: where do the other 45% come from? Is it true some ingredients come from abroad? Thank you.
Thank you for your question. We have a number of different suppliers for a number of different products. If you could specify which product you would like to know about we would be happy to provide an answer. Some of our products are sourced from outside the UK. In 2010, 55% of our food came from the UK and Ireland, with a spend of over £530 million to our supply chain. (February 2011)

404. With STARBUCKS and M&S now offering Gluten Free sandwiches, isn't it time for McDonalds UK to follow the Scandinavian franchises and offer Gluten Free meals? The market is definitely there and the Scandics show that McDonalds can deliver.
Thank you for your question. There are no current plans to introduce a gluten free sandwich at McDonald's in the UK. The area of food intolerances and allergies is a highly complex one, with many requests for specific menus as a result. There are a few items on the menu that are suitable as they have no gluten containing ingredients; these include: French Fries (these are cooked in a dedicated fryer), Hash Browns, Fruit Bags, Carrot Sticks and Garden Side Salad (with Balsamic Dressing). Some McFlurry desserts and certain Milkshakes are suitable too. McDonald’s 100% beef patties are just that; 100% beef – all that is added is a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning so these are also suitable. However, the buns are not suitable as they do contain gluten. If you ask the restaurant manager they should be able to prepare you a special order without the bun. For information, many of the McDonald's UK sauces have no gluten containing ingredients e.g. Big Mac Sauce, Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Mustard, Cool Mayo and Spicy Tomato Salsa. McDonald's UK works closely with the Coeliac Society to provide them with updated information for their members’ booklet, so this could be useful for you. For full nutritional information and ingredient declarations for all food at McDonald’s UK please visit the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (February 2011)

405. There are reports in the press about fast food outlets providing meat which has been slaughtered by the halal method, but is not openly declared as such. To be able to make informed choices I would be grateful if you would advise me if this is your practise. I have studied your website questions about halal meat there are no answers after 2009 trials, when you confirm at that time that it was not cost effective but I would like to know if anything has changed since then.
Thanks for your question. McDonald's does not offer Halal-certified food. However, in 2010 an investigation determined that some chicken entered McDonald's supply which had been subject to some additional Halal procedures, namely a religious blessing and minor changes to handling procedures which did not in any way change the method of slaughter or compromise our high animal welfare standards. These changes were not specified or accepted by McDonald's and additional checks have been introduced to ensure this mistake is not repeated. (February 2011)
