1. Hi Is it possible to locally source your gherkins, and if so, will you be doing it in the future as it is not environmentally friendly to import them all the way from Turkey. Thanks.
As you know, gherkins are small cucumbers. The cucumber plant prefers to grow in tropical, sub tropical and mild temperature zones of the world. For this reason, one of the largest growing regions for gherkins in the world is India. The UK climate is not suited to gherkins and as such McDonald's imports them. (December 2007)

2. is it true you need to add a gerkin to your burgers so that it isnt classified as a desert?
This is a bit of a myth. The gherkins are actually there as a signature ingredient of McDonald's burgers, and have been part of McDonald's sandwiches for decades for no other reason than taste.

3. is it true that if ur hamburger didn't contain the relish and gherkin it would, technically, be classed as a dessert
No, this is another myth. The gherkins are there as a signature to McDonald's burgers. Gherkins have been part of the sandwich for decades and are there for no other reason than taste. (July 2007)

The majority of customers enjoy the burgers as they are and the gherkin is one of the special ingredients that make a McDonald’s burger unique. There has always been a great debate around whether McDonald's burgers taste better with or without the gherkins. Some people love them, others don’t, and that’s OK. However, if you would like a burger without a gherkin, please request this when you order.
