McDonald's classic burgers owe their much-loved status to a set of ingredients, including the sauces and relishes, which define their unique taste. The burgers are often pre-made to the standard recipe up to a maximum of ten minutes beforehand, to anticipate busy periods. These will include the sauces. But if you would rather enjoy your burger without them, just ask at the counter and the staff will make you one to order.

No, the Big Mac Sauce is not Thousand Island dressing. McDonald's uses a special sauce in the Big Mac, and its recipe is a closely guarded secret but the ingredients along with all McDonald's food and nutritional information are available online in 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk under the 'Nutrition Counter'. McDonald's is pleased to hear that you enjoy its Sweet Curry Dip. Unfortunately, it is one of those 'secret sauces' and can not be purchased as a standalone sauce in any shops or supermarkets.

The Big Mac sauce is not sold off the shelf. It's a combination of egg yolk, water, spices, seasoning, gherkins, sugar, vegetable oil and vinegar as well as the usual preservatives you'd find in a ready-made sauce but the actual recipe is a closely guarded secret. Sorry.

No. The Big Tasty Sauce on its own is not suitable for vegetarians, due to some of the flavours used.

Thank you for your comments. McDonald’s is glad that you enjoy the tartare sauce but, unfortunately, sachets of this sauce are not available in restaurants.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 7. Why is ketchup now given out in satchets instead of the little tubs like it used to be? It is impossible to dip nuggets in a satchet and they are also very difficult to open. Tubs were perfect for dipping.

McDonald’s now uses Heinz to supply its ketchup and McNugget sauces. Heinz offers these sauces in sachets or small tubs, and it is up to restaurant managers which ones they choose to order.

This is something that has been considered over the years, but McDonald’s has decided that the Big Mac Sauce should remain solely in the Big Macs in the restaurants. The mayonnaise is actually Hellmann’s Extra Light Mayonnaise.

The ketchup, along with all the other ingredients of a McDonald’s burger, is there because it adds to the taste of the sandwich. If you don’t want it included, just ask at the counter and they should be able to make your burger to order.

Restaurant staff should always try to accommodate individual grill orders. If a restaurant is particularly busy this may not be possible, but please ask a member a staff or the restaurant manager.
