1. Seeing as obesity can now be seen as an epidemic in the UK; do you believe that external factors such as advertising may be blamed for the resulting desire to eat fast-food and therefore for people to become obese or do you think it would be down to the persons internal factors such as personality, maturity and traits to not withstand the temptation to eat fast-food, do you therefore not think that McDonalds should just advertise their products on account of their source and fat content?
Thanks for your question. It is fair to say that marketing and advertising are a widely accepted and indeed an integral part of any successful business, including McDonald’s. McDonald's objective is to ensure that its customers are offered a choice of foods with full nutritional information so that individuals can make the decision themselves, or on behalf of their children, on what they eat as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. It is not the company's role to dictate what people should or shouldn't eat. McDonald’s aim is to be as open and honest about sourcing of food as possible, which is part of the reason for this website. (March 2011)

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately McDonald’s does not disclose information that is commercially sensitive such as our marketing strategy, as this would offer an advantage to our competitors. However, we suggest you download one of our information packs from www.mcdonalds.co.uk/people/schools-and-students/schools-and-students.shtml McDonald's has been in the UK for over 30 years now and it always tries to remain contemporary and progressive when keeping up with the changes in the business and meeting the demands of customer needs and expectations. 5. i am a student at college and for my assignment i need to find out how you conduct your primary resarch and how you collect you secondary research.
McDonald's uses a mix of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques to assess effectiveness of TV campaigns. The company conducts focus groups amongst the pertinent target audience prior to a campaign launch to inform development of scripts/creative material, and quantitative post-tracking amongst a national sample of consumers to measure ad awareness, comprehension of messages, enjoyment/engagement and ad motivation. The rules and regulations governing advertising to children has disallowed the use of 'pester power' as a marketing technique for many years. We suggest you download one of McDonald’s Information Packs. These have been developed after receiving many questions from students wanting to know more about the company and are designed to help address the type of questions that you may ask about the company operations. 10. can u tell me why it is that mcdonalds are advertising to be open at 6am in the morning when some are not ? am living in the uk and in the one of the bigest citys (london) i think that it should be stated not all mcdonalds are open at this time of the morning this was a sat morning on my way to work hoping for a little something b4 i started work looks like am going to have to go hungry haha
McDonald’s are sorry to hear that your local McDonald's restaurant wasn't open on your recent visit. Over 80% of our restaurants now open at 6am or earlier, which we believe is a strong message worth communicating to our customers. Unfortunately, not every McDonald's can open its doors that early - this may be due to restrictions by the local authority, or it could simply be a business decision by one of our franchisees. If you would like to find the opening times of another McDonald's restaurant locally, take a look at the Restaurant Locator tool on our website at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (December 2009)

11. Can you please tell me in detail about the promotional activities and the advertising McDonald's Corp is taking up to promote its healthier options such as McSalads in UK ever since their launch in 2004?
Thank you for your question. Most nutritionists would advise that there is no such thing as a 'healthy' or 'unhealthy' food item - only unbalanced, 'unhealthy' lifestyles that lack variation and moderation in the individual's diet and exclude any regular physical activity. However, the McDonald's menu is constantly evolving in line with customers' requirements so greater choice has been added with the inclusion of Toasted Deli Sandwiches, Salads+ and additional side orders, for example. The company has also switched to free-range eggs and organic milk in its Happy Meal bottles and for McDonald's coffee. In terms of advertising and marketing, the principles remain unchanged albeit that the different ads and promotions change in line with current trends.

Thank you for your question.
