McDonald's has a lot of community involvement and gives back millions of pounds to local areas. For example, the company invests in football through partnerships with local clubs, schools, youth teams and junior leagues. It also organises community litter pick-ups and endeavours to fulfil requests for support from community groups and schools. This year McDonald's has been working closely with the Carbon Trust, evaluating further options for reducing the company's carbon footprint, through energy-related projects and initiatives in the restaurants. The company also supports Ronald McDonald House Charities. This aims to provide free 'home away from home' accommodation for families with children in hospital. Over the last 20 years, the company has raised over 30 million pounds through the collection boxes in restaurants, the sale of merchandise such as Christmas cards as well as staff fund-raising.
