- 1. Today I ate in a McDonald’s restaurant and when I was about to pay (with Credit Card, accepted as advertised outside) they did not accept it as did not have chip (it’s a Portuguese card); can they do that?? I've paid my meal with cash and they did not give me the receipt (although I did not ask); aren't they obligated to give a receipt always? How can I complaint? Thank you.

Thank you for your question. With regards to the card which you tried to use to pay for your meal you will need to speak to your bank for further information as to why the card was not accepted. McDonald's UK does not make the decision as to whether the card can be authorised, this is instead done by the banking check completed in the transaction, which either authorises or declines the card. There may be a number of reasons why the card was declined, including it not being authorised for use outside the country.
The policy surrounding receipts is that McDonald’s UK are obliged to provide a receipt on request and all restaurants should have the ability to do this. However, McDonald’s would not normally give out a receipt on a transaction which has been taken 'in-store', but would be able to do so should you request a receipt.
