What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 34. How do i find out what your annual statistics are for employment at McDonalds. I would like to no the annual rate of staff turnover as a % and percentage of workforce non permanent?
-
Thank you for your question. McDonald’s UK doesn’t publish their turnover figures because these can’t be compared properly to other companies’ staff turnover figures - different methods of calculation are used. However, staff turnover at McDonald’s is lower than average for the fast food / quick service restaurant sector. It must also be taken into account that there are a lot of temporary and seasonal workers within the McDonald’s workforce. Turnover is monitored every two weeks and the rate of staff turnaround has decreased as improvements are being for staff. McDonald’s UK is one of the biggest employers of young people and can provide a valuable first step for many young people into work. Around 25,000 people each year begin work at McDonald’s as their first job and the opportunities offered and flexibility of hours can suit young people and their studies or lifestyles.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 35. Why is there a wage gap between younger staff and older staff? As far as I know all staff are responsible for the same amount of work, isn't this ageism
-
Thank you for your question. There is absolutely no discrimination towards individuals. McDonald's people policies follow current best practice and all legal directives and employment legislation. All McDonald's rates of pay are reviewed each year in light of external market competitiveness, internal comparability and National Minimum Wage legislation. Like many other retailers, McDonald's pays a lower starting rate to crew members aged under 18 year olds. For many employees under 18, McDonald's is their first job and because of this their level of work experience may be less than older employees, which is reflected, in the different rates of pay. All starting rates for positions other than crew are the same regardless of age. These positions are a promotion from crew and in non-crew roles it is the employee's ability that is important rather than the age of the employee.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 36. i used to work for mcdonalds for 5years and left in 2003. i was a shift running floor manager at the time on an hourly rate of £6.92 p/h. would i be able to return back to the business and at what level would i return at and pay scale?
-
Thank you for your question. As an ex employee you would need to apply as a Crew Member and would not be able to join again at the position of Floor Manager. However, you could progress to that position quite quickly if you are able to demonstrate the correct attributes.
Furthermore, when apply for a new job at McDonald's, you must declare the fact you have previously worked for the company on your application form.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 37. I know that you are a good employer and has a flexible working policy. I wondered what research you had done to show that flexible working benefits both McDonalds and the employees ? and if you can share any results?
-
Thank you for your question. Although we are unable to share any specific employment research with you we can say that flexible working hours act as a major motivating factor for working at McDonald’s. Such hours allows students to work around their studies, and many work part-time during term time and full-time during the holidays. Additionally older people also enjoy the flexibility that McDonald’s can offer. In the company restaurants alone, McDonald’s employs over 600 people that are over the age of 65.
For more information we suggest you download McDonald’s ‘Recruitment and Training’ information pack. This has been developed after receiving many questions from students wanting to know more about the company and is designed to help address the type of questions that you may ask about the company operations.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 40. Am i allowed to cover my face just leaving my eyes visible whilst working at McDonalds? I’m not a Muslim, but they am allowed, why cant I? Are you racist against white people and Christians?
-
Thank you for your question. McDonald’s Appearance Policy is based on hygiene requirements, but also takes into account the appearance, which is presented, to customers. Failure to comply with the appearance guidelines may result in disciplinary action being taken.
Uniform - Employees should wear a neat, clean pressed McDonald's uniform that must not be worn outside of work.
Shoes – Employees must wear clean, dark polished shoes that must be flat, comfortable, have slip resistant soles and cover the foot. Open toe sandals, canvas shoes and training shoes must not be worn for safety reasons.
Hair - Hairstyles should be neat and tidy. Hair must be kept under the hat and away from the face and styled or tied back, e.g. in a ponytail, so that it is close to the head. Hairnets will be required for hairstyles that do not comply with this and where a ponytail is worn.
Extraordinary hairstyles and/or hair colouring, hair beads/ornaments can be a source of physical contamination and are not permitted, unless uniform hats hide them. Hair extensions may also be a risk and should be firmly secured and/or covered.
The Company respects employees' religious beliefs and recognises that some women wear a religious headscarf, or hajib, and some men wear a turban. Both of these may be worn. Any headscarf or turban should be clean and free from frayed edges, tassels etc. as they could get trapped in equipment. The Company does not supply such headwear.
Beards - A clean-shaven appearance is required. Beards are only permitted on genuine religious, cultural or medical grounds. Any beards must be short, neat and clean. Beards that cannot be trimmed for any of the above reasons must be neatly secured and covered with a beard net or snood of designs that have been approved by the Company. Beards that cannot be contained within a beard net or snood are not permitted. A snood/net is required where the hair length is more than 15mm or if, for any reason, it is especially prone to hair loss. Moustaches and sideburns are permitted, provided they are short, neat and clean.
Clean-shaven - means that the employee has shaved and does not come to work with stubble on his face
Moustaches - should not come down below the top lip or corners of the mouth
Sideburns - should not come down below the bottom of the ear lobe
Jewellery - No watches, small badges or jewellery of any sort (including tooth jewellery), with the exception of a plain wedding band, are to be worn in restaurants as they could get caught in equipment, trap dirt and become a food safety risk or source of physical contamination. The jewellery requirement extends to include any visible body piercing, including ear(s), tongue, eyebrow(s) and nose piercing. However, studs in parts of the body that are covered e.g. navels, are acceptable. Extraordinary styled glasses and/or coloured and patterned contact lenses are also not allowed. The use of self-adhesive plasters, or similar, to cover jewellery or newly pierced visible body parts, is not allowed.
Religious Symbols - Although jewellery is not allowed to be worn in restaurants for safety reasons, religious symbols can be worn. However you may be asked to wear a bracelet or necklace under your shirt or wear a long sleeved shirt with tight fitting cuffs.
Medical Bracelets/Necklaces - As these are worn for a specific medical reason and need to be retained on the person's body so that they are readily accessible in the event of a medical emergency they are allowed. You should advise your manager if you wear a medical bracelet/necklace. You may be asked to wear the bracelet or necklace under your shirt or wear a long sleeved shirt with tight fitting cuffs. Copper bangles etc. should not be worn while working.
Tattoos - Tattoos, including Henna tattoos that are visible whilst wearing your uniform will only be permitted if they are unobtrusive and inoffensive.
Personal Hygiene - Personal hygiene must include regular bathing, shampooing hair, use of deodorant, keeping hands and fingernails clean, etc.
Finger Nails and Make up - nails must be kept clean and short (i.e. not extending beyond the finger tips). The wearing of false nails and nail varnish is not permitted. Make up should not be excessive.

-
At no point during the application process do McDonald’s UK ask for a candidate’s political view. Therefore it is not part of the decision making process when deciding whether someone is suitable to work at McDonald's.

At McDonald’s UK the pay rates for a Customer Care Assistant range from £5.75 - £7.80, pay is reviewed annually in October and each employee has an annual pay related review between July and September. It is hard to say how much a persons pay will increase each year as it is often based on performance.
