1. What equipment/machinery do McDonalds use to produce their product/service?
Thank you for your question. There is a variety of machinery and technology at work throughout McDonald's business. Unfortunately your question is very broad so it is hard for us to be more specific. Please resubmit your question detailing what technology you wish to know about and we will be happy to help.

2. I have become accustomed to ordering a 'Pounder' at McDonald's, a regular Quarter Pounder ordered with three extra QP patties and cheeses both. The serving staff often become very distressed when I order this burger. Do McDonalds instruct their staff to discourage the eating of large burgers so to avoid the bad publicity of, say, my sudden death???
Thank you for your question. The confusion caused with the crew members is perhaps down to the fact that McDonald’s do not sell a ‘Pounder’ burger as standard on the menu. However the company’s primary objective is to meet its customer’s needs and make sure they have a satisfactory time whilst visiting a restaurant. It is for that reason that restaurants will usually try and accommodate special requests for food to be made in a certain way; however this is usually down to an individual restaurant manager’s discretion. 3. Somebody i know used to work in macdonalds and they said that when you fry the chips and the fish in the fillet-o-fish you use the same oil used when you fry the beef and other non halal (haraam) is this true?
The beef patties are cooked, without any added fat or oil, between hot plates that cook the patties from both sides - a similar cooking process to the grilling machines that are sold in a variety of kitchenware stores. The Filet-o-Fish, French Fries, Apple Pies and the Veggie Deluxe are cooked in a new non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil in separate cooking fryers. The fryers are exclusively for cooking a specific product, and that product alone. However, none of the items on the current McDonald's menu in the UK are Halal as the company does not have the infrastructure to guarantee the requirements. JUNE '07 UPDATE: McDonald's trials Halal chicken at a restaurant in Southall, London. (June 2007) FEBRUARY '08 UPDATE: McDonald’s UK now do not use any hydrogenated oil in any food items across the entire menu SEPTEMBER '09 TRIAL RESULT: McDonald’s began this trial because we wanted to assess customer demand for certified Halal food in our UK restaurants. We have learnt that Halal is only popular with a very small percentage of our customers and to offer it we would need to make significant changes to our kitchen procedures and supply chain. Given this, we have decided that we are not currently in a position to roll out Halal food in the UK.

4. Your restaurants sometimes pre-cook burgers in anticipation of busy periods, keeping them warm in a heated 'holding area'. What are your company's guidelines for how long a burger should remain there before being discarded as unsuitable for sale/consumption?
Once sandwiches are prepared, they are kept in a heated area between the front counter and the kitchen to ensure that they remain hot and fresh. They must be sold within ten minutes, otherwise they are disposed of. A timecard system is used to help manage this. Fries must be sold within five minutes of being cooked and all salads have a limited holding time to keep them tasting fresh.
