Each product is fried in separate fryers. However, when it comes to filtering the oil, McDonald's has two different filtering processes. One process is self-filtering, where oil is not mixed from one fryer to another. The second filtering process uses the same unit across all fryers, but the fryers are filtered in a specific order. So the French Fries fryer is filtered first, followed by the Veggie Deluxe fryer, the Apple Pies fryer, the chicken fryer and then the Filet-o-Fish fryer. The machine is thoroughly cleaned after every filtering session and the Vegetarian Society has approved this method for keeping oil used to cook the fries separate from any meat content. McDonald's has been trialling Halal chicken at a restaurant in Southall, London. Regarding E471 in McDonald's Ice Cream, it is derived from vegetable oil and is suitable for vegetarians.

In my communty fish can only be halal if it is blessed before being killed and has a spine and scales. Did the fillet of fish meet these requirements? Thank You.

Thank you for posting a question. Good news, the trial is still continuing. The company is still gathering feedback from customers and any future developments will be made known once everything has been thoroughly analysed and discussed. McDonald's does not class the Filet-o-Fish as a Halal food item. The only items that are available on Halal menu in the Southall restaurant are chicken based foods.

Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 6. i don't agree the halal meat you have done is 100% halal, every1 in this country are looking for HMC (halal monitoring committee) this is 100% halal because they give you the meat and also look at you how you cut the meat and do you say the word from the quraan and they gve you proper certification but it cost alot of money, so why don't you have HMC then that halal meat you have just got?

McDonald's would like to assure you that the Halal food items that are currently available on trial in the Southall restaurant are 100 percent Halal. There are many organisations in the UK that accredit Halal status. However, McDonald's has chosen to work very closely with the Halal Food Authority to ensure that they meet all of their rigorous standards and to exceed them for Halal preparation, from farm right to fingers. Customers can enjoy all the Halal products at the Southall restaurant as they are procured with full adherence to the Islamic dietary rules and relevant EU hygiene, food safety and animal welfare regulations. The only items that are available on Halal menu in the Southall restaurant are chicken based foods; they are clearly marked for customers to see. The rest of the products are prepared in the original way and can also be clearly identified.

The trial is still going in the Southall restaurant. However, there are no other McDonald's restaurants in the UK currently with any Halal food items available.

McDonald’s French Fries aren’t coated in animal extract before they are fried. They are cooked in a new non- hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil, making them 100 percent vegetarian-friendly. The issue of Halal food items on the McDonald's menu is a complex one, with both sides of the debate raising passionate and important issues. It goes without saying that customers are very important to the company, and McDonald's works hard to accommodate them all as best as it possibly can. There have been numerous requests from customers who enjoy eating McDonald's and whose diet consists of Halal foods for a choice of Halal items available to them on the menu. McDonald's researched this need and after careful consideration and lengthy discussions with Halal food experts, the company felt that it could provide theses customers with a small selection of Halal food items at a specific restaurant in London, whilst not compromising the very high standards of animal welfare that McDonald's has set throughout its entire food chain.
McDonald’s consulted widely with stakeholders and interested parties to ensure the company met expectations. This included respected groups such as the RSPCA, Humane Slaughter Association and Compassion In World Farming. Currently, only chicken items are available as Halal options and only at McDonald's Southall restaurant. McDonald's Halal slaughter method has not changed much from its usual procedure. This is the stun to stun method (an electrical shock is used to knock out the chicken painlessly so that it is unconscious), followed by the kill. During the Halal method for accreditation, a verse from the Koran is recited during the slaughter by an appropriate person. This is the only change in the abattoir procedure.

Are your milshakes suitable for a halal diet. I have been informed that the strawberry flavour milkshake is not suitable.

McDonald's menu does not offer anything that is officially certified as vegan. This is simply to avoid confusion between what is vegan and what is vegetarian. In the case of Halal, the McDonald's Southall restaurant is the only McDonald's that has some approved Halal food items amongst the other products on its menu. This is currently still in the trial phase as McDonald's currently does not have the correct infrastructure in place within its supply chain to guarantee the specific environment needed for Halal in all stores. However the French Fries and the Strawberry Milkshake are both suitable for vegetarians, as certified by the Vegetarian Society.

The trial is still ongoing in the Southall restaurant. McDonald's hopes that you understand that the company is taking into consideration all the variables surrounding the trial such as supply chain and consumer issues, as well as the thoughts and opinions of McDonald's shareholders. This will take a little more time, but a full decision and updates will be made as soon as everything has been fully reviewed.

Currently McDonald's is conducting detailed consumer research around the country to fully understand the views of customers on this issue. However, it is too early to determine if the trial will expand.
