Unfortunately that is not true. Today, McDonald's UK lacks the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the requirements of Halal. It is something the company is currently looking at, however with an ongoing trial being run in Southall. JUNE '07 UPDATE:

No, the Filet-o-Fish is not Kosher. McDonald's currently does not have the correct infrastructure to guarantee the specific requirements that both Halal and Kosher food require, although McDonald's have recently trialled a limited Halal menu in its Southall restaurant.

McDonald's continues to listen to the views of customers and for that reason the company is, with the help of animal welfare experts, investigating the possibility of offering Halal food at some McDonald's restaurants. You can be rest assured that whatever decision is made about Halal food, it will be made with animal welfare as the fundamental aspect.

Currently, McDonald's UK sells no Halal food, as the company unfortunately lacks the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the requirements. It is something the company is currently looking at, however. However, you might be interested to know that the Grilled Veggie Toasted Deli Sandwich does have the approval of The Vegetarian Society.

McDonald's does not classify any of their Menu items as Halal. However, all the Milkshakes are suitable for vegetarians. This is because McDonald's no longer uses E120 cochineal as a colouring in the Strawberry Milkshakes. The new colouring is a beetroot juice concentrate (E162) which is a natural extract of beetroot. A full list of the nutritional breakdowns of all menu items is available in the ‘Our Food’ booklet, which is available for download in the 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk under 'Ingredients list'.
