1. Is the rumour true that 1p from the sale of each burger in the USA is donated to NORAID?
If you are referring to the rumour that McDonald's has funded the IRA, we can categorically say that there has never been any truth to this whatsoever. This unpleasant urban myth dates back to the 1970's when McDonald's first opened in the UK. The payslips used for UK staff at that time were imported from the USA, and included a printed reference to the American equivalent to NI pension contributions i.e. the 'Individual Retirement Account' or 'IRA' for short. The rumour that McDonald's donated to the IRA terrorist group arises from this misunderstanding. (August 2008)
