- 1. I am doing a project for my degree, and was wondering if you could tell me what measures does a large multinational business such as yours take to monitor the political environment in its various operating areas? Many Thanks

Like most big companies, McDonald's engages with a variety of different stakeholders in the countries where it does business, as well as monitoring all pending political initiatives. The focus of this website is on food issues and other issues specific to the UK, and we are therefore not able to provide a more detailed response here.

Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 2. i like McDonalds a lot but since 9/11 and the not so good one in london i am scared of terrorist attacks and avoid the bigger resturants. can you tell me how many terrorist threats/warnings you have had? have any stores been blown up by the islam and have been covered up in the papers? VMT

The threat level has been at a raised state since 9/11 and at one stage raised to its highest level as a result of recent events in Glasgow and London.
There has never been any specific threat made to the company or its stores.
Stores are always on the alert especially if finding suspicious items in the stores that no one claims - on these occasions McDonald's communicates with the Police which may well result in the store being temporally closed to deal with such incidents.
There have been no stores blown up by any organisation.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 3. Hello. I have heard that McDonald's UK was instrumental in lobbying the Blair government to support the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. I have heard that McDonald's UK felt that it could utilize vast areas of the fertile cressent to grow grains to make sandwitch buns. Is this true and what is McDonald's UK's position on the ongoing conflict in the middle east?
-
McDonald's is a restaurant that's committed to providing its customers great tasting food at an affordable price, not a political party.
It had no involvement in any decisions regarding Iraq. Nor does the company want to use land in the Fertile Crescent to grow grain. (July 2007)

McDonald’s is an international business with thriving companies in many countries around the world. And its employees and franchisees come from a wide variety of cultures and religions. It would, therefore, definitely not be appropriate for McDonald’s to support one political viewpoint over another.

-
McDonald’s Corporation does not make political donations – neither in the USA nor here in the UK. If there have been any donations in the USA, they will have come from franchisees, who are completely independent.

-
McDonald's does not, and never has, funded the IRA. This story is based on an old urban myth that dates back to the 1970's when McDonald's first opened up shop in the UK. The payslips used for UK staff at that time were imported from the USA, and included printed reference to the American equivalent to NI pension contributions - the 'Individual Retirement Account' - or 'IRA' for short. The rumour that McDonald's donated to the IRA terrorist group arises from this misunderstanding.
