- 1. Is it true that when they build a mc donalds, the building materials are pre fabricated? Is it also true that Mc donalds in Abingdon, got put up in 24 hours?
-
Thank you for your question. Many of our drive thru restaurants were built utilising pre-fabricated buildings. These were precured through two companies and allowed us to increase our opening plan bewteen 1992 - 2001 to approximatly 80 stores per annum. Specific to the store in Abingdon, this was a prefabricated building (since extended) although it wasn't built in 24 hrs.
We did build a restaurant in 24hrs, this is located in Runcorn, Cheshire.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 3. Whats with the new 'contemporary' style of the mcDonalds outlets? the colours are dull and boring.
-
McDonald's has introduced two main types of new store design One is a bright primary colour décor scheme with cool furnishings and stylish fittings, and the other is a more café-style look with brown and cream colour schemes. McDonald's is experimenting with various design schemes in the hope of appealing to as many individual tastes as possible. Ultimately, decor and colour are very personal matters, and as such not all customers may like one scheme.

-
Most of the interior design schemes utilised by McDonald's are bespoke, and as such it isn't possible to use them other than within a McDonald's restaurant. Interior designers are commissioned to create these decors on the company’s behalf and then arrange manufacture through various worldwide suppliers. McDonald’s is pleased that you like these designs but they are protected by copyright so unfortunately we cannot help you with regards to purchasing.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 5. I'm an Industrial Engineer and have for years wondered why you use the cattle call queuing approach in your restaurants. Retailers and other fast food restaurants use a single queue that feeds multiple cash registers. This approach follows basic queuing principles and results in faster service. Why doesn't McDs use this approach?
-
It's an interesting observation that you have made, and one that McDonald's is currently looking into. There is no research the company is aware of that delves into any detail about the service system that is currently in place in its restaurants. However, like most things, there are pros and cons to both systems. Other factors such as individual choice and restaurant space and construction can also play a part.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 6. Why is necessary to have blaring music in your establisments when the noise of mobile phone conversations, funny noises from internet computers and general 'hubub' from chatting customers is quite enough to cope with while trying to escape modern stresses.
-
McDonald's apologises for your recent noisy experience. Music is sometimes played in restaurants on a low level in the background to give some ambiance, and should not be too loud or unsettling. If you are finding that the music in your local restaurant is too high, please bring it to the attention of the restaurant manager who will be able to lower it for you.

Firstly apologies for the slow response to your question, there have been some recent technical updates to the site, which resulted in a delay in answering questions. However the team are now back on track. OK, in regards to your question, more than 200 have been refurbished all across the UK with 100 planned for this year.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 8. hi guys, why did you choose this new design? It looks like a famous coffee store e.g. Star Bucks. dear martha
-
Firstly, many apologies for the very slow response to your question, as the site went through a few changes, some questions had slipped through the net, so thank you for your patience. McDonald's is a modern-thinking business. As customers' needs and tastes change, McDonald's has been pro-active in researching what customers want to see in its restaurants. Findings revealed that they felt the interior of McDonald’s restaurants needed a facelift, and the company agreed. So, as you have noticed, a major refurbishment has begun rolling out across all McDonald’s UK restaurants. The majority of the decor has been designed by French interior designer Philippe Avanzi. These designs are bespoke to McDonald's and are intended to provide a comfortable, enjoyable and inspiring interior for customers to enjoy.

McDonald's is unable to give out this information, sorry. However, the exterior furniture and accessories are different for most of McDonald's restaurants and come as part of a package from the construction department.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 10. how meany can u fit in your restaurant?
-
Assuming that your question is related to the size of McDonald’s dining areas and the number of seats within these areas: it can vary dramatically from store to store.
McDonald’s larger restaurants situated on high streets can typically have seating counts approaching 300. However, smaller restaurants in the West End of London, for example, can seat up to 20. McDonald’s Drive thru locations are much more standard, with most restaurants having a dining area of 75 - 100 seats. Hopefully this answers your question, if not please resubmit your question with a little more detail so that the team may answer it more conclusively for you.

-
Over the years of developing the drive thru estate McDonald's has utilised a number of national and regional contractors to design, install and maintain the landscaping and perimeter fencing. The installation on fencing and its design is very site specific and is usually designed in consultation with the Local Authority Planning and Highways Departments.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 12. The seating in your restaurants is not particularly easy for larger or taller people to sit in - particularly in your restaurants with the 'fixed seating' (that is, seats bolted to the floor). The seats often give very little leg room, and not a lot of tummy room. Is there any particular reason for this, or do you simply not wish to cater (no pun intended) for larger and taller people?
-
Each restaurant is designed to have a number of seating options to be used with comfort by all customers and the company apologises if you don't find this to be the case. McDonald's aim is to be its customers' favourite place and way to eat. If your comment pertains to a specific restaurant, please call the Customer Services team and they will look into the matter for you. (June 2007)

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 13. Why are your drive throughs constructed with no escape route, e.g. the other day I got up to the ordering screen and found out that the electronic transaction terminal was out of order. Thsdi meant I had to wait til everyone was served. drive thru without ordering and then park up andf enter the restaurant on foot. A bit of a waste of time and perhaps a hazard. there must be a better design/system
-
A number of stores have drive-thrus that allow cars to pull out of the lane should they wish to. However, this relies on the site construction and position of the building. McDonald's is sorry to hear that you had such an inconvenient experience; you should have been able to place your order at the first window if the ordering terminal was not working. If this is an issue that persists, please contact the Customer Services team on 08705 244622 so that they can investigate the matter fully. (June 2007)

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 14. Why are you changing the appearance of your restaurants to a more upmarket look? This includes reducing the amount of seating. This goes against the pile-em-high-and-flog-em-cheap principle which has made McDonalds the successful company which it is today and betrays its core audience: those of us which want a no-frills meal in a no-frills establishment.
-
The reason for the refurbishment across the restaurants is to provide customers with a fresh, relaxed and more up-to-date environment in which to enjoy their McDonald's food. Many people have commented that some of the restaurants were beginning to look a bit tired and, after much research to find out what customers wanted from the new-look restaurants, the current design was agreed. The formula, however, remains the same - easy, welcoming, functional seating and layout that appeals to as many of our customers as possible. (June 2007)

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 15. Have you ever thought about changing your decor / seating to make the restaurants a bit more welcoming? I heard that the colours and seating in McDonalds were designed to be as unappealing as possible so that people would just eat up quickly and leave. I'm not sure how much I believe that, but wouldn't it be nice to have comfier seats for people to relax?
-
McDonald’s wants to be its customers’ favourite place and way to eat.
The company always tries to remain contemporary and keep up with its customer needs and expectations. McDonald’s endeavours to make all restaurants inviting to a wide range of customers, and customer research guides the company designers in their decisions.
The aim is to provide a variety of seating area designs to cater for all customers’ needs.
Keep an eye out for our most recently refurbished restaurants around the country, where you will find even more comfy seats and a refreshed colour scheme.
