1. Why do so many branches frequently not have milkshakes/the milkshake machine working? As one of the products that I feel defines the McDonald's brand surely it should be able to be provided at all times.
Unfortunately, as with any kind of mechanical equipment, certain items may break down from time to time. McDonald's implements a comprehensive set of equipment checks to make sure its equipment is up and running for as much of the time as possible. If you find that is happening on a regular basis, please talk to the restaurant manager or phone Customer Services on so 08705 244 622 so that they can look into it.

2. The McDonalds nearest my home says that their Milkshake machine is broken down "temporarily," but this has been the state of affairs for going on six months now. Is this against McDonalds Corproate Policy, or is it up to the individual franchisee to decide as they like whether to do anything about it?
Apologies that you have not been able to order a milkshake for some time. All McDonald’s restaurants in the UK offer milkshakes. From time to time, individual restaurants may experience equipment breakdowns but if a specific restaurant has not served shakes for a period of time, the company needs to investigate this. Please contact the Customer Services Team on 08705 244622 with the restaurant details so this issue can be resolved. (May 2007)

4. The single reason I visit McDonalds are for the Milkshakes. However, I quite often find that the machines are out of order - at my local restaurant and others. Why is this the case? Surely equipment should be tested more often to ensure failure doesn't happen? Also, rumour has it that McDonalds are going to discontinue Milkshakes, or change them to the French McDonalds style (disgusting!). Is this true?
No. McDonald’s has no plans to discontinue or change the Milkshakes and have recently added the limited edition Rolo Milkshake to the summer menu. As with any mechanical equipment, things may break down from time to time.McDonald’s has a comprehensive set of maintenance checks in place to make sure that equipment is up and running for as much of the time as possible. If you feel that there is a specific problem at your local restaurant with the Milkshake machine, please talk to the restaurant manager or phone Customer Services on so 08705 244 622 that they can look into your complaint.
