- 1. why are the straws so thin? you should have a selection of girths.
-
The girth and all other aspects of the straw specification have been adjusted for McDonald's customers and the drinks they enjoy. The girth is of specific importance, due to the "thickness" of the milkshakes, which are of course more difficult to suck than other drinks. The current thickness was introduced around five years ago, following extensive testing which included talking to customers in restaurants. Until now McDonald’s has not had any complaints, however the company is glad to have your feedback and will keep an eye open to see if any other customers also experience this problem.

-
Technically this could be done, however the supply chain complexity and cost implications wouldn't really make sense. Production lines would need to be set up again and cleaned more often, therefore increasing levels of wasted materials like plastic. Having a single straw colour and type for all restaurants across Europe allows McDonald’s to optimise the supply chain and total cost, which in turn helps the company to provide outstanding value to customers.

Good question. This has been referred to the Procurement Team. McDonald’s do not have any immediate plans to offer ‘bendy straws’.
