1. How can you claim you are aren't anti-union when a High Court Judge ruled you to be so in the McLibel trial?
The London Greenpeace trial (sometimes known as the ‘McLibel trial’) was concluded some time ago. The world has moved on since then and so has McDonald's. McDonald’s UK is not anti trade union. It believes in good, open dialogue between employees and the company and works with employees and franchisees to make sure this happens both in restaurants and within the organisation as a whole. Employees are free to join a union if they wish and McDonald’s understands that many employees may already be trade union members.

2. Seeing as you are not against staff joining a trade union I'd like to come in and recruit members of your staff to our union, as we do with other employers. Can we arrange an induction session?
Whilst McDonald’s has no objections to employees joining a union, the company cannot recommend any particular union. This comes down to personal choice. If employees choose to attend one of your meetings outside of work then that is their prerogative.

3. Are McDonalds willing to work with specific trade unions such as the International Union of Food, Restaurant, Catering and Allied Workers' Associations? To not directly co-operate with such related unions does show MacDonalds UK in a bad light and however good internal checks maybe it should be in the interest of the company to allow their workers an external process for advice and their problems.
The company does not currently work with any trade union. While McDonald’s is not anti-trade union, it believes that the company has sufficient methods of engaging with employees without the need to involve a third party. It believes in good, open dialogue between employees and the company, and works with employees and franchisees to make sure this happens both in restaurants and within the organisation as a whole. Employees are free to join a union if they wish. McDonald’s follows all UK and European employment law guidelines strictly.

4. If people ask questions then they expect straight answers. Someone asked if you allow your wrokers to join trade unions and unbelievably you didn't answer this question and waffled about open dialogue. Come on McDonalds, it's a straight question deserving an straight yes or no. I'm left feeling that you don't allow membership and you're ashamed by this. So is it a yes or a no?
The answer to your question is yes, workers are allowed to join trade unions: McDonald’s doesn’t have any objections to anyone joining a trade union. In fact, McDonald’s understands that many employees may already be trade union members.

5. You say that you are not 'anti-union' and encourage an open dialogue with your employees. However, it would be nice to be given the choice. And let's be honest. What chance does one employee have against a multinational like McDonalds'?
McDonald’s doesn’t have any objections to anyone joining a trade union and regard union membership as a personal choice for individual employees. McDonalds UK has strong channels of communication with staff members including crew meetings, annual opinion surveys, an open door policy and a HR Helpline. As a result, there are many ways and opportunities to communicate with employees and to resolve any problems that may arise from time to time.
