2. I would like to know why I cannot get a vegeburger(non meat) sandwich here in the US, but you sell them in India. I WOULD eat at McDonalds instead of Burger King. It surely couldn't take that much room in your freezer for a box of vegeburgers. Loyal BK customer because of vegeburgers!
Thanks for your question. This site has been set up to answer questions about McDonald’s in the UK. We suggest you visit www.mcdonalds.com for information about McDonald’s in the US. (June 2011)

4. I have been told by a number of people that non meat products are fried using same oil for example fries are fried in the same oil as meat products are fried and that the vegetarian deli and sandwiches are fried in the same oil as meat/poultry products are fried. Can u confirm if non-meat ie filet of fish, fries and veggie options are fried in separate oil to meat/poultry options which thereby renders them to be suitable for vegetarians? Thanks
Thanks for your question. All of our products are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our Filet-o-Fish, Fish Fingers, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. These vats are exclusively for the purpose of cooking a specific product and that product alone. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance that tiny traces of the vegetable oil used to fry chicken and fish products can come into contact with oil used to cook the vegetable patties and Pies, during the oil filtering process. The vats are filtered manually using a strict order of rotation to minimise any chance that oil residues from the previous filtering could get into the vat used for other products. Therefore while every precaution is taken in order to prevent this during the filtering process, we cannot categorically state this would never occur. McDonald’s French Fries are made using Russet Burbank, Pentland Dell, Innovator and Shepody potatoes, which are chosen for their quality, taste and long shape when cut. The fries are not coated in any fats or substance from an animal. Once at the restaurant our fries are simply cooked in dedicated frying vats in a non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil which is 100 percent suitable for vegetarians. McDonald’s French Fries are officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. (June 2011)

5. Hi. I'm a little confused. I live in the UK and am a vegetarian. Are the McDonalds Fries and Thick Shakes and all McFlurrys, including the fillings suitable for vegetarians, please? Also what are suitable in other countries, especially USA? Many Thanks for your advice
Thanks for your question. McDonald’s UK French Fries are made using Russet Burbank, Pentland Dell, Innovator and Shepody potatoes, which are chosen for their quality, taste and long shape when cut. The fries are not coated in any fats or substance from an animal. Once at the restaurant our fries are simply cooked in dedicated frying vats in a non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil which is 100 percent suitable for vegetarians. McDonald’s UK French Fries are officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. McDonald’s Milkshakes are suitable for vegetarians and have been approved by the Vegetarian Society. The Crunchie and Dairy Milk McFlurry desserts are suitable for vegetarians. The Smartie McFlurry is not suitable. Although the ice cream contains no ingredients of animal origin the Smarties contain whey powder which the supplier cannot guarantee is free from animal rennet. The vegetarian status of all our standard menu items can be found on the reverse of the trayliner in the restaurants. Ingredient declarations along with comprehensive nutritional breakdowns for all McDonald's items are available online at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. This website has been set up specifically to answer questions relating to McDonald's in the UK. If you would like to find information about McDonald's in any other country please see the website www.mcdonalds.com. (June 2011)

6. Hello :) thank you so much for making your French fries 100% Veggie friendly, can you let me know if you are working towards getting a 100% pure vegetarian burger to enjoy at the same time as our Carne loving friends? because at the moment some of your staff are unsure about what is Veggie friendly and what is not, causing a very uncomfortable situation .. thank you in advance xx
Thanks for your question. We are glad to hear you are happy with our French Fries being officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. While our Spicy Vegetable product is not approved by the Vegetarian Society, it does not contain any meat or meat by-products and is cooked in 100% vegetable oil, using ingredients that are suitable for vegetarians. The Spicy Vegetable patties are cooked in a non hydrogenated vegetable oil, in their own dedicated cooking vats. These vats are used exclusively for the purpose of cooking this type of product (ie a non meat/non fish product). The vats are filtered manually using a strict order of rotation to minimise any chance that oil residues from the previous filtering could get into the vat used for Spicy Vegetable patties. However, during this manual process there is a possibility that tiny traces of the vegetable oil used to cook the chicken and/or fish products may come into contact with the vegetable oil used to cook the Spicy Vegetable patties. We are always looking at ways to improve our menu. Our food development team is currently investigating alternative cooking methods and liasing with the Vegetarian Society with a view to seeking Vegetarian Society approval once a new cooking method is established (Our French Fries, which have been approved by the Vegetarian Society, are cooked using different equipment and are entirely segregated from the other products). 7. Hi, I am a Muslim and would like to know why McDonald's Apple Pies are stated as 'Not Suitable For Vegetarians'? This is stated on the back of the sheets of papers which is placed on the tray on which you food and drinks are placed when eating indoors? (PS. what are these papers called on which the back is full of information?) Please reply as it would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your question. McDonald’s Apple Pies are made with ingredients that are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin) and they are cooked in dedicated frying vats using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (100% vegetable oil). However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry the Apple Pies can come into contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee that cross contamination will not occur. The paper on the trays with all of the nutritional content is called a trayliner. You can find more information about the food and the nutritional content of all McDonald’s products at www.mcdonalds.co.uk and by clicking on the ‘Food’ tab. (April 2011)

8. Hi there, i am a muslim and i would just like to know if your fries are 100% vegetarian (with no beef flavouring) and also what sort of oil do you use for fillet-0-fish burgers and happy meal fish fingers. And could they be contaminated by any sort of meat?? Your reply would be much appreciated!! Thank you
Thanks for your question. All of our products are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our File-o-Fish, Fish Fingers, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the 100% vegetable oil used to cook each product can become in contact with oil used to cook meat products during the oil filtering process. 9. Reading through your Q&A's for veggie food and have to say the generic answers given are pretty poor and lazy on your part - surely such an up-to-date and 'innovative' company you would have a decent veggie menu, I don't want to eat chips and saled and I don't want to eat a muffin for breakfast - how about egg mcmufffin? Veggie Bean Burger? Veggie Sticks? Really it's not difficult, you really need to cater for all, not just meat eaters.
Thanks for your question. Although at its heart, McDonald’s primary business will always be in burgers, it goes without saying that customers are very important to the company, and McDonald's works hard to accommodate them all as best as it possibly can, including vegetarians. However the company recognises there is always room for improvement and in view of this suggests you should get in touch with the Customer Services Team to log your enthusiasm for more vegetarian options. You can get in touch with them by email using the ‘Contact Us’ link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk - the team will be happy to hear your suggestions. (March 2011)

10. why is apple pies, fanta and smarties mcflurry not vegetarian?
Thanks for your question. McDonald’s Apple Pies are made with ingredients that are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin) and they are cooked in dedicated frying vats using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry the Apple Pies can come into contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee that cross contamination will not occur. Fanta is not suitable for vegetarians as it contains the colour Beta Carotene (which contains fish oils). The Smarties used in the Smartie McFlurry contain whey powder which the supplier cannot guarantee is suitable for vegetarians as it may contain traces of animal rennet depending on the source of the whey powder. You can find a full list of ingredients for all McDonald’s UK menu items by visiting the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (February 2011)

14. My girlfriend is vegetarian and loves mcdonalds chips, however we can't have a full meal there together because she can't have any of the burgers. Is mcdonalds going to bring the Quorn Premier back again or anything quorn based? The only thing veggie on the menu is the wrap and she's bored of that now. Thanks.
Thanks for your question. The Quorn Premier is no longer available as it wasn’t very popular. If you would like to make a suggestion on a product please visit www.mcdonalds.co.uk and click on the ‘contact us’ link. (December 2010)

15. Recently, on a tray liner, I read that veggie deli wasn’t suitable for vegetarians. and a few other things like milkshakes?. I didn’t quite understand. I gathered it was meat free, hence the name VEGGIE deluxe. Was it an error or..?
All ingredients in the Spicy Veggie Deli are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin). The vegetable patty is cooked in a dedicated vat using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (which is suitable for vegetarians). However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry vegetable patties can become in contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products, during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee cross-contamination will not occur. McDonald's French Fries have been officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. This is because they are cooked in dedicated frying vats, with a completely separate filtering unit. With regards Milkshakes, McDonald’s milkshakes are suitable for vegetarians and have been approved by the Vegetarian Society. A full list of ingredients for all McDonald's menu items is available in the 'Food' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (April 2010)
