2. Why don't you have ingredients lists for all products on this website so people can 'make up their own mind'. For example your milkshakes.
The Make Up Your own Mind team directs people to the www.mcdonalds.co.uk site so they can see the ingredients list for the full menu and not only the milkshakes. However, McDonald’s have had a number of requests for this and it is something the company is looking into. For your information, the list of ingredients for a Vanilla Milkshake is: Milkshake Base: Milk, Sugar, Whey Powder, Glucose Syrup, Cream (40 percent Butterfat), Stabiliser (E412 Guar Gum, E407 Carrageenan (Standardised with sugars), Dextrose, E410 Locust Bean Gum. Vanilla Flavour Milkshake Syrup: Water, Sugar, Caramelised Sugar, Colour (E150d Caramel), Flavour (Vanillin), Acidifier (E330 Citric Acid) and Preservative (E202 Potassium Sorbate).

4. why does your UK website never work it is so fustrating!!!!Spend more money on making the website navigate and function properly.
It sounds like you are talking about www.mcdonalds.co.uk. McDonald's is sorry to hear that you are having troubles with the site. There haven’t been any recent technical problems reported so it is difficult to locate the problem that you are having with the site. If you are still having problems you may want to try opening the site with a different web browser than you would usually use. (February 2008)

5. Why don't you put the ingredients list of chicken nuggets on this website under 'chicken nuggets' --that's what people click on it to fined out. You know most people won't be bothered to then go onto another website to download the info.
McDonald’s is always looking at how the websites can improve so thank you for your suggestion – it’s certainly something the company is considering. Currently, the Make Up Your Own Mind team directs people to the www.mcdonalds.co.uk site so they can see the ingredients list for the full menu and not only the Chicken McNuggets. However, so you don’t have to go on to another site, here’s the list of ingredients you are after: Chicken McNuggets: Chicken (45%), Coating (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Wheat Flour, Maize Flour, Raising Agents (E450 Disodium Diphosphate, E500 Sodium Bicarbonate, E341 Monocalcium Phosphate), Dried Egg Albumen, Pepper, Salt, Wheat Starch, Whey Powder, Ground Celery, Flavour Enhancer (E508 Potassium Chloride), Vegetable Oil, Water, Natural Flavouring, Flavour Enhancer (E508 Potassium Chloride), Potato Starch and Vegetable Oil. FEBRUARY '08 UPDATE: McDonald’s UK now do not use any hydrogenated oil in any food items across the entire menu

6. someone asked you if your fries was made from real potatoes or was frozen, you never answered the question, you just said that they were cooked in vegetable oil and were suitable for vegatarians. why did you not answer the question.
Sorry if you received an unsatisfactory answer. This site was inundated with questions at launch, and some may not have been given the answer that they deserved. The French Fries are indeed made from real potatoes. Three specific types of potatoes infact, the Russett Burbank, Shepody and Pentland Dell, which are grown for their long shape. Once these potatoes have been harvested, washed and ‘chipped’ they are briefly fried before being frozen. This is how they are supplied to restaurants, where they’re cooked from frozen and then salted before serving. There is a 2-3 week period at the beginning of the season when the fries will also have a light coating of dextrose, a natural wheat-based sugar. This is because these young potatoes do not contain enough natural sugars to brown nicely. DECEMBER '07 UPDATE: McDonald's French Fries are now fully accredited by the Vegetarian Society. (December 2007)

8. Why have you not updated your website to list the ingredients for your "summer special" items? It is a serious deterrent for those with serious allergies like myself?
McDonald’s apologises if this has caused you any concerns. Up until now McDonald’s has always listed ingredients, allergens, and nutrition info for short term promotional items at www.mcdonalds.co.uk - via the Nutrition Counter and Our Food booklet. However McDonald’s are currently updating nutritional information and labelling and have introduced a new website at www.mcdonaldsmenu.info. This website details all nutrition and allergen info - but unfortunately at the moment this doesn’t include promotional items. McDonald’s agree with you that this information needs to be made available to customers and will ensure that this is put in place for all future promotions. In the meantime if you do want to find out any allergen information please contact the customer services department on 08705 244622 or by visiting the ‘Contact Us’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

9. Why are all the answers you give to the questions asked of you so impersonal, banal and relentlessly inhuman? In fact, it feels as if the answers have not been prepared by a living, breathing human being at all; rather they seem to be computer generated stock replies that churn out the same hackneyed response to almost any pertinent enquiry. I feel you are in fact failing the people looking for honest answers, and this way of answering their questions only damages your reputation even further.
McDonald's can assure you that your questions are answered by beings who are most certainly living and breathing! The reason answers can sound similar is because many questions posed are on similar topics. For example, there are many questions regarding McDonald's beef patties and vegetarian menu options that are basically the same and thus the answers are alike. This question and answer forum states that you can 'ask whatever you want' and so people do and so the team at www.makeupyourownmind.com endeavours to answer them - from the hard hitting questions to those regarding the much debated topic of gherkins in burgers. All questions - aside from those that are repetitious or aren't really a question - are answered and published online. (September 2007)

10. How come all the questions asked on this website seem to be getting a pre-written generic response instead of actually answering the questions asked? Surely this kind of generic answering gives BAD publicity, the exact opposite of the intention of this website?!
McDonald's is sorry that you feel the questions aren't being treated singularly. All questions that are asked - aside from those that are repititious or aren't really asking a question - are answered individually and published for everyone to see. As current facts on McDonald's business and food stays the same, so do the answers. There are a a few popular topics, so these responses often sound alike. For example, there are many similar questions regarding McDonald's vegetarian and halal menu options. However, McDonald's updates answers when new and appropriate information becomes available. 11. Why do you put the same answer for a lot of questions? Can you not be bothered to answer us?
A lot of the questions posted to the site are very similar, which is sometimes why a similar or the same answer is given to different questions. Recently, for example, there have been many questions posted about Halal and vegetarian menu items. The questions generally were asking the same thing. As the current facts of McDonald's food and business remain the same on these subjects, the same answer would be used in some cases. As you may be aware, McDonald's likes to communicate with its customers and opinions and situations change. Where this is the case McDonald's will update answers where appropriate as quickly as possible.

12. Why do you script your answers, and give the exact same text to multiple questions? For that matter, why do you even give multiple versions of the same question? There's even one 'question' which is simply "halal" - yet you give the same long, convoluted answer that you give all questions about halal menus. Why is this? Why isn't there an open forum, where we can ask questions? And why do I know that you will probably not even answer this question, instead giving the standard reply?
There are a lot of very similar questions sent in which is sometimes why the same answer is given to different questions. For example, there have been lots of questions sent in asking about Halal food and vegetarian menu items. The same answer is sometimes used because the facts about McDonald's food and business remain the same. Where this is not the case the answers to the questions are being looked at again to find a more appropriate answer. McDonald's is also considering holding live web chats where people can quiz McDonald's senior management by asking questions in an open and honest debate. JUNE '07 UPDATE: McDonald's trials Halal chicken at a restaurant in Southall, London. Click here for more information: http://www.makeupyourownmind.co.uk/our-halal-trial.html (June 2007)

13. Is it MacDonald's marketing staff and/or the people at Duke who have a complete lack of understanding about the UK geography? For example, the Events map on this site places Newcastle-under-Lyme (which is in the midlands) in Scotland!! Also, the registration form does not allow input of '_' in the email field, hence I couldn't use this email address. One other thing - there is no text alternative to this Flash site. You are excluding certain disabled users and may not be complying with the DDA!
Thank you for your comments. On initial set up of this page there were a few problems with geography but this has now been rectified. The Make Up Your Own Website is consistently reviewed and the team will take your comments on board as they continue to enhance the accessibility of site.

14. Your website is so hard to navigate. How am i meant to know that 'Eat Smart' is the menu?
Just to clarify, the ‘Eat Smart’ section is on the McDonald’s UK corporate website (www.mcdonalds.co.uk), not the Make Up Your Own Mind site. Nevertheless, the ‘Eat Smart’ section includes information about all aspects of McDonald’s food, from the ingredients lists to the calorie counter to where the ingredients are sourced from. So ‘Eat Smart’ is an all-encompassing heading on the site.

15. it was ages ago since i asked my question, why so long ? and how do i find the answer to my question ?
McDonald’s aims to answer each question within two weeks. However, it is true to say that, at the start, there were some teething problems that caused some delay – apologies, if this is the case in this instance. The ‘Questions & Answers’ can be searched either by keyword or by sub sectors – this will help you find the information you are looking for.
