- 1. I stopped eating chicken McNuggets because of the chewy tenden that randomly appears in some of your nuggets. After biting into one of these nuggets, my stomach immediately turns. What is McDonald's doing to ensure that this will no longer occur?
-
Thank you for your question. The only meat used in McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets is carefully deboned chicken breast. There are no extra nasty bits. Once made, they are coated with a specially seasoned batter. Originally the Chicken McNuggets were made from both dark and white meat. The dark meat consisted of the thighs, skin and drumstick as well as the breast, the same composition as if you were to have a roast chicken for a meal at home. However, after extensive research and feedback from customers, it was clear that they only wanted 100 percent breast meat in the nuggets, and McDonald's have been doing so since.

I have heard from my friends that the Chicken McNugget is made from mutated chicken brain and it would make me pass my tests with flying colours. Can you confirm this? If this is true, then I would like to pre-order 1000 nuggets.
-
No mutated brains of chickens, just carefully deboned 100 per cent chicken breast meat, coated in a specially seasoned batter. Thank you for your question. Disodium diphosphate is a raising agent, which is used as an ingredient in the coating for our famously delicious Chicken McNuggets. What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 4. In Charlotte Haile's Chicken McNugget report, she states: "...there are four designs: the ball, the boot, the bone and the bell. Although one shape is called 'the bone', this is ironic because every effort is made that no chicken bones are at all likely to turn up in a McNugget)." This is all well and good, but it says nothing about boots, balls and bells turning up in a McNugget. Am I to assume that there's a chance of finding one or all of these in an average McNugget?
-
Thank you for your question. We can reassure you that McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets only contain carefully deboned chicken breast meat, which is coated in a specially seasoned batter.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 8. Will you ever bring back the original Chicken McNuggets?
-
McDonald's is always keen to hear the views of its customers, and some asked if the company could make changes to the recipe for Chicken McNuggets. Originally, the nuggets were made from dark and white meat. The dark meat consisted of the thighs, skin and drumstick as well as the breast, the same composition as if you were to have a roast chicken meal at home. After extensive research and feedback from customers, it was clear that they only wanted 100 per cent breast meat in the nuggets, and McDonald's changed the recipe to accommodate this.
McDonald's has also lowered the salt content of the nuggets by 30 per cent.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 11. Hi, years ago before you used 100% chicken breast is it true that you used all types of chicken meat to make the mc nuggets which caused a problem with the meat going brown so mcdonalds added bull siemen (protein) to keep the meat white?
-
Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all.
No, there is no truth to this. McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets used to be made from dark and white meat. The dark meat consisted of the thighs, skin and drumstick as well as the breast, the same composition as if you were to have a roast chicken for a meal at home. However, after extensive research and feedback from customers, it was clear that the only meat they wanted in McNuggets was breast meat, and McDonald's have been doing so since. The McNuggets have always been prepared in the same way. The meat is carefully cut away from the carcass, marinated, minced and formed into the distinctive nugget shapes. They are then coated in a specially seasoned batter and gently cooked until golden. No additional nasty bits are added to them at any point. If you would like further reassurance, then please take a look at the recent independent Quality Scout report on Chicken McNuggets. What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 13. If your Chicken Mc Neggets are made of such good chicken, why do you add chicken flavouring and flavour enhancer to them?
-
Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all.
Quality and taste are both vital to McDonald's food, and they complement each other. The flavouring used in Chicken McNuggets is natural and the flavour enhancer (potassium chloride) is used to reduce the amount of salt, and therefore reduce the amount of sodium - making them healthier.
Like any other restaurant, McDonald's takes its ingredients and adds seasoning and flavours to really bring out the taste of its food. It is this taste that probably brings two million customers to McDonald's in the UK each day.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 14. mcdonalds says it dosnt put any preservatives on there paties... well just throwing it out there salt is a type of preservative and my friend that works at mcdonalds says that the chicken nugets are made of 10% corn and the rest are chunks of chicken and he also told me that the regular hamburger patties are made of super procesed beef and fish by- products. Is this true?
-
Hello and thanks for posting. There are a few myths and untruths that surround McDonald's food, and the Make Up Your Own Mind site was created to help set the record straight, and reassure customers and the public about the quality of McDonald's food. You are right; salt is a type of preservative. However, McDonald's does not use salt as a preservative for its patties. A pinch of salt is used for seasoning and flavour after the patties are cooked, nothing more. The beef patties are made from 100 per cent pure beef. No fillers, binders - or fish. Just beef.
Regarding the nuggets, there is corn in their ingredients, used in the batter. McDonald's Chicken McNuggets are made from carefully deboned chicken breast meat, marinaded and coated in a specially seasoned batter. You can find full ingredients information by clicking 'Ingredient List', which is in the 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 15. Why do you use potassium chloride (a salt) described as "flavour enhancer" in chicken mcnuggets? Isn't this just a dishonest way of trying to hide a very high salt content (so you can measure sodium content, rather than salt and come up with a lower figure)? Describing it a "a healthier alternative to salt" (see your Quality Scout's report) is disingenuous (it is a salt!).
-
Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all.
You are right; potassium chloride is chemically a salt. However the ingredient 'salt' that is listed in ingredient declarations will be sodium chloride, commonly called salt. It is the sodium in salt (sodium chloride) that can be harmful to health if consumed in large quantities.
McDonald's UK works closely with the Food Standards Agency and has made many changes over the years to reduce the sodium content in its food in line with their recommendations. As Chicken McNuggets are popular with younger customers it was particularly important to redevelop these to reduce their sodium content. If you remove salt entirely from a McNugget the flavour is very bland and it would no longer be enjoyable. Salt itself is a flavour enhancer, so during research the company looked at ways to enhance the flavour without using salt. Substituting potassium chloride for some of the sodium chloride was found to give the best flavour profile for the McNuggets.
The reason McDonald’s label potassium chloride as a flavour enhancer is because that is the legal definition for that type of additive. The Chicken McNuggets are now healthier as they contain less sodium.
Further information on reducing sodium in the diet can be found on the Food Standards Agency website www.salt.gov.uk.
