48. i recently found a chicken's toe nail in one of your chicken nuggets. why was it in there? i thought it was supposed to be proper chicken...not chicken feet!
McDonald's finds that the assessment of its business in the books ‘Fast Food Nation and ‘Chew on This’ is harsh, and the company rebuts the allegations that they propose. McDonald's feels that the information they contain is far removed from the facts. The progress that McDonald's has made in its procedures and practises throughout the entire business is substantial, and is a reflection of the progressive and modern direction that the business has been heading in. You might be interested in hearing a recent and open interview between McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook and the author of Fast Food Nation/Chew on this, Eric Schlosser on the BBC website. The link to the interview is here: http://search.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/search/results.pl?scope=all&edition=d&q=Easterbrook+schlosser&go=Search If you feel any questions were not properly answered then why not ask them again on this site? 49. do you use 100% chicken breast in your mc snadwich an pure good fish in your fillet o fish meals an is it true that your milk shake is made of 90% lard ?
The only meat that McDonald’s uses in its McNuggets, McChicken Premiere and McChicken Sandwich is carefully deboned chicken breast meat. In the Filet-o-Fish, McDonald’s now uses hoki fish to sustain the depleting numbers of cod. Hoki is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries, and at the moment comes from the seas around New Zealand. And, no, there is absolutely no lard in the milkshakes. NOVEMBER 07 UPDATE: From mid November 2007, McDonald's Filet-o-Fish will be prepared using Alaskan Pollock fish, which is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries. Fish Fingers will continue to be made from Hoki, also sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries.

51. Why lie? You keep stating that your burgers and McNuggets are 100% beef and chicken respectively. You're clearly aware that this just means its 100% cow/chicken...and therefore its most likely the unwanted poor quality cuts that remain are just reformed to create your food. Chicken breast in your nuggets? Do you think people are completely stupid? The chicken content is a solid paste at most.
McDonald’s doesn’t lie about food content. 100 percent beef is used in the burgers and only carefully deboned chicken breast is indeed used in the Chicken McNuggets. Both the beef and the chicken are traceable right back to the farms on which the livestock was raised. If you would like to find out more about McDonald’s suppliers you can follow the progress of members of the public now enlisted as McDonald’s Quality Scouts. This website will broadcast their views and opinions, as they visit the farms and report first hand.

52. some people say that the meat in your chicken mcnuggets comes from the chickens bottom, and the chickens are fed horrible drugs to make them grow fat faster, and that they're treated really badly. is this true? and if it isn't, where does the rumour come from, and if it is true, then why do you do it?
The only meat used in McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets is carefully deboned chicken breast. All the chicken used is traceable right back to the farms on which the birds were raised, and the highest standards are assured by rigorous quality checks and inspections. All McDonald’s UK poultry suppliers are accredited by the nationally recognised Farm Assurance Scheme, Assured Chicken Production. This ensures full control over all aspects of chicken farming, including feed and animal welfare. The feed used for rearing chickens is not genetically modified and is free from antibiotic growth promoters.

56. How do we know that you aren't lying about anything, you tell us that the Chicken Nuggets are made from Breast Meat and backstage while nobodys looking, they are made from Chicken feet.
McDonald's isn't lying: the meat used in our Chicken McNuggets is 100 percent white breast chicken meat. There are no chicken feet, beaks or any other parts of a chicken present; just breast meat. There are many rumours and urban myths about McDonald's, but if you want further information, do visit the Quality Scouts section of this site, where you can see the full, filmed report of how Chicken McNuggets are produced - as investigated by Charlotte, a teacher and mother who visited the McNuggets supplier on an independent, unpaid basis (as do all the Scouts) to see for herself. Also, ingredients for all of McDonald's food are listed online in the 'Ingredients List' in the 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (September 2007)

57. In previous adverts you have stated that your products now contain 100% of an ingredient i.e our burgers are now 100% beef and our chicken nuggets are now 100% chicken. Surely this should have always been the case, what did they used to contain??
McDonald’s Hamburgers have always been made from 100 per cent beef and nothing else, and have always been advertised as so. In regard to McDonald’s chicken based products, there have been changes. Previously, chicken products were made from 100 per cent chicken. However, they were made from whole cuts of light meat, dark meat, and skin, in the natural proportions of a whole chicken. Feedback from customers revealed that they only wanted breast meat used in the chicken products. McDonald’s gladly changed its recipe, and now the meat in its chicken products is white breast meat only. (August 2007)

58. I have read in a news paper that your McNuggets only consist of fat and chicken penis. Because that is the purest meat. I was wondering if this was true and if so could you explain why it is purer. Thank you. Jake W, FHM
No, this is not true. McDonald's Chicken McNuggets are made from carefully deboned chicken breast meat, which is coated in a specially seasoned batter. The full ingredients list for the Chicken McNuggets is available in the 'Our Food' booklet, which is available for download in the 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk, under 'Ingredients list'. 59. A few things. I've heard that Mcdonald's Mcnuggets are infact not all chicken, if so is this why they arn't called Chicken Nuggets? I also heard that soft serve ice cream is made with pig fat.Is it true? And one more, to prove that you're human, when you answer this, type Thanks Tommy in the end.
McDonald's is often surprised at the myths surrounding the ingredients in its food. The Chicken McNuggets are made from carefully deboned chicken breast meat, which is coated in a specially seasoned batter. There is no pig fat in the ice-cream. It’s made from: Skimmed Milk, Cream, Sugar, Whey Powder, Glucose Syrup, Stabilisers, Flavouring, Dextrose. You can find full details of all McDonald's ingredients online in the 'Ingredients List' which is in the 'Eat Smart' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk. In addition, there is a comprehensive list of nutritional and allergen information available at www.mcdonaldsmenu.info. Hope this helps, and thank you for your questions. (September 2007)

60. This is a question about how the nuggets were made PREVIOUSLY . Were the different parts (skin, brown meat etc) emulsifed together, then shaped? Did they have any chemicals added to them? How was the meat taken off the carcass? What is brown meat? I ask this because i was under the assumption the nuggets were white meat only from the very start.
As you have mentioned, the Chicken McNuggets were made from dark and white meat. The dark meat consisted of the thighs, skin and drumstick as well as the breast, the same composition as if you were to have a roast chicken for a meal at home. However, after extensive research and feedback from customers, it was clear that they only wanted 100 percent breast meat in the nuggets, and McDonald's have been doing so since. The nuggets have always been prepared in the same way. The meat is carefully cut away from the carcass, marinated, minced and formed into their distinctive nugget shapes. They are then coated in a specially seasoned batter and gently cooked until golden. Nothing is added to them or taken away. A full ingredients list for all McDonald’s food items can be found in the 'Ingredient List' which is in the 'Eat Smart' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (November 2007)
