1. Hi As a recently diagnosed coeliac, I dread the thought of having to give up my occasional treat of a breakfast, if the big breakfast is served without the english muffin, is it suitably gluten free?
You will be pleased to hear that the Scrambled Egg, Pork Sausage and Hash Brown can all be classed as gluten free according to allergen labelling legislation. Please tell your server your requirements when placing your order and they will be happy to help you. McDonald's UK works very closely with Coeliac UK and provides them with a detailed list of all ingredients that are suitable for Coeliacs. For more information on gluten-free food and drink visit the Coeliac UK website at www.coeliac.co.uk. (April 2010)

2. My son has severe allergy to egg, chicken and nuts, and we lived in Hong Kong. Could you let me know which product we should stay away or can eat (whichever would be easier to answer). Many thanks!!
Make Up Your Own Mind has been set up specifically to answer questions about McDonald's within the UK so it is hard for us to answer specific questions about other markets, although you can visit the homepage of McDonald’s Hong Kong via www.mcdonalds.com.hk . With regards the UK you can find out allergen and ingredients list for all McDonald’s UK menu items by visiting the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (Jan 2010)

3. Could you please tell me if any of your food is Gluten Free, I know your rolls are not, but what about your burgers and chips. Thank You.
Thank you for your question. The area of food intolerances and allergies is a highly complex one, with many requests for specific menus as a result. There are a few items on the menu that are suitable for those on a gluten free diet, including: French Fries (these are cooked in a dedicated fryer), Hash Browns, Fruit Bags, Carrot Sticks and Garden Side Salad (with Balsamic Dressing). Some McFlurry desserts and certain Milkshakes are suitable too. With regards to McDonald’s burgers, the beef patties are 100% beef – all that is added is a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning. However as you mention, the buns are not suitable as they do contain gluten. If you ask the restaurant manager they should be able to prepare you a special order without the bun. For information, many of the McDonald's sauces do not contain gluten e.g. Big Mac Sauce, Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Mustard, Cool Mayo and Spicy Tomato Salsa. McDonald's also works closely with the Coeliac Society to provide them with updated information for their members’ booklet, so this could be useful for you. 4. In previous Q&A, it's mentioned that McFlurries of Dairy Milk and Crunchie are Gluten-Free. However, Cadburys now state on MOST of their chocolates that they contain gluten, including Dairy Milk, Wispa.. Crunchie does not state it has gluten, but I suspect it would be the same chocolate. Why would your crunchie pieces be made in a different factory? Defeats the economies of scale. In store McD's manager said all your McFlurrys contain gluten apart from After Eight.
McDonald's UK can confirm that the Cadbury Crunchie Pieces used in the McFlurry do not contain gluten. This ingredient is made at a different site to the retail version of the Cadbury Crunchie. We have also had confirmation from our supplier that the Cadbury Dairvy Milk Chocolate Chips used in our McFlurry also does not contain gluten. If you would like to know whether any of our promotional McFlurry desserts contain gluten please check on our website www.mcdonalds.co.uk in the Nutrition & Ingredients pages of the Food Section. 7. My son has a severe allergy to gluten and dairy. Is there any any gluten or dairy in a McDonald's beef burger?
Thank you for your question. The area of food intolerances and allergies is a highly complex one, with many requests for specific menus as a result. The bun used for McDonald's beef burgers contains wheat/gluten and may contain traces of milk as it is made on the same line as other buns containing milk products. The beef patty on its own contains only 100% beef - whole cuts of high quality forequarter and flank. Nothing is added or taken away from the beef - preservatives, additives, binders or fillers are never used. If you would like to provide your own gluten and dairy free bun then the restaurant manager would be happy to serve the beef patty on its own - just need to let the server know your requirements when placing the order. For full nutritional and ingredients information for all food at McDonald’s please visit the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

12. Can you advise if you will be re thinking about providing gluten free buns? More and more people are being diagnosed with coeliac disease and even more have it without being aware. Thank you
Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all. Unfortunately McDonald’s has no plans to introduce gluten free buns at present. However, several of our menu items are gluten free including all the drinks, French Fries, Fruit bags, Carrot sticks and the Crunchie and Dairy Milk McFlurry. You can find a full list of which ingredients contain gluten in the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (Feb 09)
