Thanks for posting in. However, this site has been set up to deal with issues relating to McDonald's UK. Neither of these products are available on the UK menu, however within the UK, items such as the French Fries, the Hash Browns, the Garden Side Salad, the Carrot Sticks, the Fruit Bags and the Dairy Milk McFlurry are gluten free. If you would like to see gluten free products in your particular country, then please go to www.mcdonalds.com for more information. If you feel strongly about seeing more gluten free products on the UK menu, please contact the Customer Service Team by using the 'Contact Us' link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk or by calling the helpline on 08705 244622. The team is always keen to hear your suggestions and the more of these requests they hear, the more chance that something may be done.

The hamburger patties are gluten free, made purely from 100 percent beef with a pinch of salt and pepper added after cooking. The chicken patties do, however, contain gluten in their specially seasoned batter.

Has McDonalds done any customer research into this? They may be surprised at the outcome. McDonalds in Sweden does gluten-free buns and it is interesting that there is no consistent global policy on this.

No quantified research has been carried out on the demand for a gluten-free bun in the UK. (The burger alone is gluten-free as it only contains 100 per cent beef.) The situation in Sweden is being observed keenly, and discussions have taken place at a European level. But each country takes such decisions based on the needs of its local customers, hence why this kind of recipe question is not taken at a global policy level.

McDonald’s do serve a few gluten free products, such as the French Fries, the Hash Browns, the Garden Side Salad, the Carrot Sticks, the Fruit Bags and the Dairy Milk McFlurry. However, at the moment there are no plans to launch any new products, for example, gluten free buns.

Yes, if you ask for a burger without the bun, then you will get the burger, sauce, cheese and lettuce. You will then be able to make up the sandwich yourself with your own bread. Unfortunately, McDonald’s probably will not be able to toast your bun or make up the sandwich for you.

Just to confirm, the McDonald’s salads which contain chicken, are not gluten free. The croutons are also not gluten free. The Garden Salad and the dressings are however free from gluten. In addition, the French Fries, Hash Browns, Carrot Sticks and Fruit Bags are all gluten free. For dessert, the Crunchie McFlurry and Dairy Milk McFlurry contain no gluten. As do the Strawberry, Banana and Chocolate Milkshakes. A list of all items which contain gluten is available in McDonald’s restaurants on the reverse of the tray liners.

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, McDonald’s has no plans to introduce gluten free Chicken Dippers at present.

The best thing to do is to check the allergy information on either the different countries’ websites or on the back of the tray liners when you get to the restaurant. With regards to the UK, it’s also worth checking as the gluten status on promotional items especially when they involve new sauces, different McFlurry toppings and for certain promotional potato products.

The Crunchie McFlurry and the Dairy Milk McFlurry are both gluten free. However the ice cream cone and the McFlurry Smarties are not.
