35. The Strawberry Sundae of the dessert menu is shown regarded as not suitable for vegetarians. May i know the ingredients of the strawberry topping and also the strawberry milkshake.
McDonald's Strawberry Sundae used to contain E120 cochineal, which is a natural colour sourced from animals, making this unsuitable for vegetarians or those concerned about products of animal origin. But you will be happy to know that McDonald's no longer uses this ingredient. The colouring used is a beetroot juice concentrate (E162) which is a natural extract of beetroot which makes the Strawberry Sundae (As well as the Strawberry Milkshake) suitable for all for everybody to enjoy. You can find the ingredients for the Sundae and all McDonald's food items at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (July 2007)

45. The majority of consumers will be unaware that a medium milkshake contains 63g of sugar..thats 16 teaspoons! I know there is water availible, but do u expect kids to really work out the sugar content of their drinks? Do you think 16 teaspoons of sugar in a drink is safe? If people knew that the drink contained 16 teaspoons of sugar, how many people would actually still drink it?
Each person’s diet and lifestyle is a matter of personal choice. McDonald’s offers choice and variety on the food and drinks menu, accompanied by complete nutritional information (on the back of tray liners in the restaurant and at www.mcdonaldsmenu.info) so that customers can make the choices that are right for them. McDonald’s assumes that children’s parents are the ones who make the decisions about the food their children eat. The menu includes a range of drinks options that allows parents to make choices they believe are right for their children. As you say, there is water available, as well as Orange Juice, non sugar carbonated drinks such as Diet Coke and in Happy Meals, there’s no added sugar Apple and Blackcurrent Fruit Shoots, and Organic Milk.
