91. why arent your milkshakes made with fresh organic milk
McDonald’s does use organic milk in the milk bottles, however using organic milk in the milkshake is another matter. The volume of organic milk required would make McDonald’s one of the biggest buyer of organic milk in the country and the existing supply chain is simply not able to cope with a demand of that scale at present. This may be reviewed in the future if the circumstances change.

92. what do you use to make your thick shakes? i was told it wasnt milk etc which is why you had to cal it thick shakes?
McDonald’s Milkshakes contain milk as the largest ingredient. When milk and sugar are refrigerated to a certain temperature, the combination of sugar and ice particles naturally thickens the mixture. The Milkshake machines keep this mixture constantly moving so that air can also thicken the consistency. A stabilizing agent, E412 guar gum, is also added, as it is to many ice creams you can buy in the supermarkets. 75% of the Milkshake is milk from the British Isles. The full list of ingredients for the Milkshake base (before flavouring) is: milk, skimmed milk, cream, sugar, skimmed milk powder, glucose. Stabilisers: E412 guar gum, E452 sodium phosphate, E407 carrageenan, E466 carboxymethylcellulose, vanilla flavour.

95. Why are your milkshakes so inconsistant? They used to be fine but everytime there is a problemeither too thick (impossible to consume) too much syrup the list goes on. It wastes money & ingredients.
The milkshakes should not be inconsistent. If you are at all unhappy with a milkshake or indeed any item from McDonald’s, please bring it to the staff or restaurant manager’s attention so they can sort it out. There may be a fault in that particular machine which needs fixing. The machines are checked regularly but any feedback is much appreciated.

96. I know its only FLAVOURED milkshakes but why no real fruit in shakes
The milkshakes are extremely popular, with a recipe that has been virutally unchanged for years. McDonald’s does use fresh ingredients, but adding fruit to the milkshakes is not viable logistically, and would unnecessarily change a menu item that has been enjoyed for decades.

98. I have heard that mc'donalds resturants put 'smash' potatoe powder mix into their milkshakes to help it get thicker. Is this true? I really love the strawberry milkshakes and it would really put me off comming to mc'donalds if this rumour is true. put my mind at ease. Thanks Lianne
A lot of urban mythology seems to surround the milkshakes but the facts are much simpler. There are no potatoes or anything similar in the McDonald’s milkshakes. Each milkshake will have slightly different ingredients depending on its flavour but all milkshakes are made up of around 75 percent of milk, which comes from the British isles. The full ingredients of the milkshake base (before specific flavouring) are: Milk, skimmed milk, cream, sugar, skimmed milk powder, glucose, Stabilisers: E412 guar gum, E452 sodium phosphate, E407 carrageenan, E466 carboxymethylcellulose, vanilla flavour. If you would like any more details on the different flavours or indeed any item on the McDonald’s menu, all food, ingredients and nutritional information are available online in 'Eat Smart' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk under the 'Nutrition Counter' section.
