3. Can you tell me if anti-caking agent is used on the salt your fries are sprinkled with? My severely autistic son is highly intolerant to the anti-caking agent sodium hexacyanoferrate II and must avoid it.
Sodium hexacyanoferrate II or E535 is widely used as a processing aid in salt and it is found in the salt used to season McDonald's fries. If you would like your fries served without salt please let the server know when you place your order and they will be happy to prepare them for you. (Feb 2009)

4. after looking at your ingreadeance a large amount of the flavour comes from fat, sugar and salt. this is also addictive why do you appart from cost use these to enhance the flavour as the amount of salt and sugar is unneccasary and blatently harmfull to health. i eat at mcdonalds and i know its not heathy but you continue to say it is. why not say its bad for you and let people eat it any way? eg smokers. they know it gives them cancer but they do it.
Thank you for your question. Nutritionists say that individual food items should not be classed as 'healthy' or 'unhealthy’ as it is more important to consider variation, moderation and physical activity in your overall diet. The company does not believe that it should tell people what they should or should not eat. The company objective is to ensure that its customers are offered a choice of foods with full nutritional information so that individuals can make the decision themselves, or on behalf of their children, on what they eat as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. With regards to the salt content in our menu items, salt is used for seasoning and flavouring after the cooking of the hamburger patties, and then it is just a pinch. No salt is added after the cooking of other foods such as chicken or pork. You can find out more about the salt content of McDonald's foods in the 'Nutrition Counter' at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. 5. Why is there such a huge amount of my recommended daily intake of salt in most savoury McDonald's proudts?
Thank you for your question. McDonald’s has a varied menu offering plenty of choice. Within the different foods there will be varying amounts of salt. So for example, a small portion of French Fries contains 0.5g of salt, whereas a Hamburger contains 1.2g of salt. A lot of research goes into the recipe of the menu items, and the amount of salt in each product compliments the taste for each item. However, McDonald’s are working all the time to reduce the amount of salt in its foods without compromising on taste, and works closely with the Food Standards Agency on this issue. In fact, over the last few years a number of reductions have already taken place, such as a 30% reduction of salt in Chicken McNuggets, a 24% reduction of salt in French Fries, and a 20% reduction of salt in buns. 6. Why do you feel the need to put so much salt in the foods? and why is the only answer you put up that the meet is 100% beef and nothing else and the things butchers use? people want real answers not 100% beef all the time!
Thank you for your question. The salt content in McDonald’s menu items is used for seasoning and flavouring after the cooking of the hamburger patties, and then it is just a pinch. No salt is added after the cooking of other foods (Except French Fries which are lightly salted by hand after cooking) such as chicken or pork. With regards to McDonald’s fries, currently our research shows customers are happy with the kitchen staff salting the fries. However, McDonald's have made progressive efforts to reduce the amount of salt. McDonald's fries have had their salt content reduced by 24 per cent. It is also possible have your fries unsalted if you prefer. Just let the crew member who is serving you know and they will see to it that you have a fresh portion made for you. You can find out more about the salt content of McDonald's foods in the 'Nutrition Counter' at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (February 2009)

7. I do think there should be a policy on salt, maybe let people salt there own food. Its the main reason people i know don't enjoy it, which i feel is bad. Mainly because i have to eat on my own. That was a joke, i just feel you could get much more business. I mean pregnant women won't eat there because of the salt intake. I just think you should do some research and find out just how people can benefit from McDonald's letting people salt there own food.

McDonald's has also undetaken considerable research to determine what consumers want - for example, whether they want McDonald's to continue to salt fries after being cooked. The majority of customers want McDonald's to continue doing this. (Jan 09)
