1. Is the veg paty used in veg burger and the wrap fully vegetarian, ie cooked in similar fryer to chips and no cross contamination? Thanks
Thanks for your question. All of our products are cooked separately; beef patties are cooked on a griddle and our Filet-o-Fish, Fish Fingers, Apple Pies, Chicken products and vegetable patty are cooked in 100% vegetable oil using dedicated cooking vats. These vats are exclusively for the purpose of cooking a specific product and that product alone. However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance that tiny traces of the vegetable oil used to fry chicken and fish products can come into contact with oil used to cook the vegetable patties and Pies, during the oil filtering process. The vats are filtered manually using a strict order of rotation to minimise any chance that oil residues from the previous filtering could get into the vat used for other products. Therefore while every precaution is taken in order to prevent this during the filtering process, we cannot categorically state this would never occur. (January 2012).

3. I am coeliac and would be grateful if you could confirm if your Veggie Burgers at UK restaurants are gluten and wheat free? and if I can order without the bun (which I understand is not gluten free?) Many thanks
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately the Spicy Vegetable Patty is made with wheat flour so contains wheat and gluten. The ingredient declarations for all our products can be found on our website www.mcdonalds.co.uk by selecting Food, then Nutrition & Ingredients. (March 2011)

4. why do you have fries then vegetarian fries aren't they the same thing or do you cook them in animal oil?
Thank you for your question. All of McDonald’s UK French Fries are suitable for vegetarians and have been certified so by the Vegetarian Society. The fries are cooked in a non-hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil. (April 2010)

5. The Spicy Veggie Deli, which you have said is suitable for vegatarins on this website countless times is actually not, is it? It states this on the trayliners and contains Gluten, which is derived from animal fats. Does the Veggie Deluxe contain Gluten? Why is it not stressed to customers that the Veggie Deli is not Vegetarian. The title is very misleading. I look forward to your response.
All ingredients in the Vegetable Deluxe and the Spicy Veggie Deli are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin). The vegetable patty is cooked in a dedicated vat using a non-hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (which is suitable for vegetarians). However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry vegetable patties can come in contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee cross-contamination will not occur. For a full list of nutritional information and ingredients for all McDonald’s UK menu items, please visit the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. Gluten is not derived from animal products - it is a protein found in the grass related grains like wheat, rye and barley. The information given in the trayliner is correct.

6. The nutritional information on the tray liner says that your Spicy Veggie Deli is NOT suitable for vegetarians! Please explain

7. Hi I was reading your leaflet that you give out with every order where it describes what’s in the food and the Deli Veggie Sandwich is not suitable for vegetarians. Why is this???
All ingredients in the Vegetable Deluxe and Spicy Veggie Deli are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin). The vegetable patty is cooked in a dedicated vat using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (which is suitable for vegetarians). However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry vegetable patties can become in contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee cross-contamination will not occur. McDonald's French Fries have been officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. This is because they are cooked in dedicated frying vats, with a completely separate filtering unit. (January 2009)

9. why have you changed the veggie deluxe to the spicy one? will you be changing it back soon? and does the spicy one contain coriander?
McDonald's is sorry to hear that you are not enjoying the new Toasted Deli Spicy Veggie sandwich. Due to the overall popularity of the sandwich, the Veggie Deluxe is now only available in restaurants where the demand for it is high. However, McDonald’s is always monitoring its menu and the choices available to all customers. If you feel strongly about seeing more vegetarian options on the menu, please email McDonald's using the 'Contact Us' link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk, (February 2008)

10. I recently discovered that your Spicy Veggie Deli is not suitable for vegetarians. Does this also apply to the Vegetable Deluxe? If it is the oil that is shared with meat products, can I request that my burger is cooked in the same oil as the fries instead? Could this not become standard procedure?
All ingredients in the Vegetable Deluxe and Spicy Veggie Deli are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin). The vegetable patty is cooked in a dedicated vat using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (which is suitable for vegetarians). 12. I'm vegetarian and have always eaten the Spicy Veggie sandwich when dinnig with the rest of my non-veggie family. But tonight, I happened to read the nutritional info on the reverse of the trayliner and noticed that it is listed as NOT suitable for vegetarians! Given that this is the only non-meat / fish option currently on the menu (except chips), what do you suggest I eat? How is it not veggie? And what is the point of having a vegetable option that is not suitable for veggies?
All ingredients in the Vegetable Deluxe and Spicy Veggie Deli are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin). The vegetable patty is cooked in a dedicated vat using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (which is suitable for vegetarians). 13. I am allergic to any meat products, eggs and gelatin. Therefore was wondering whether chips get cooked in a completely fresh veg oil seperate to the oil you cook any sort of meat products in? also is there any sort of animal fat or gelatin in any of the mcflurry's?
Thank you for your question. We can reassure you that McDonald’s Fries are suitable for vegetarians and have even been certified by the Vegetarian Society. Our permanent McFlurry desserts, Crunchie and Cadbury Dairy Milk are suitable for vegetarians. The Smartie McFlurry is not suitable as the Nestle Smarties contain milk products that could have been contaminated with animal rennet. There is currently no gelatine used in our McFlurry desserts. For further information you can find a full list of ingredients and allergen information for all McDonald’s UK menu items by visiting the ‘Food’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (Jan 2010)

14. Iv noticed that you are saying that the filet o fish burger is not vegetarian, because they are saying that fish is a meat, fair enough, but i would like to know if the Dextrose in the tartar sauce is animal based or not? Also the dextrose in your fries, hash browns and in the Caesar dressing, are they are all animal based dextrose? - As they would be the most popular "Vegetarian" things on your menu.
Thank you for your question. The Tartare sauce used in McDonald’s UK Filet-o-Fish is suitable for vegetarians. You’ll also be pleased to hear that McDonald’s UK Fries are suitable for vegetarians and have been approved by the Vegetarian Society. Unfortunately the Caesar Salad is no longer on the McDonald's UK menu. The only salad option suitable for vegetarians is the Garden Salad served with a Balsamic Dressing. As far as the Caesar Dressing is concerned although the cheese used as an ingredient is vegetarian the dressing itself is not suitable as the yoghurt and milk protein ingredients cannot be guaranteed as being free from animal rennet. There is no animal derived dextrose used as an ingredient in any current product. Furthermore the following sauces are suitable for vegetarians: Balsamic Dressing, Big Mac Sauce, Brown Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Sweet & Sour Sauce, Sweet Curry Sauce, Legend Mayo, Mustard, Ranch Sauce, Sandwich Sauce, Smokey BBQ, Sweet Chilli Sauce, Spicy Tomato Salsa, Tartare Sauce. Please check with your restaurant manager or with Customer Services if you would like to know if sauces used in promotional products are suitable for vegetarians. (December 2009)
