1. I notice a couple of year ago that the normal cheese slice that wnet into a filet of fish was halved in size, yet the price of a filt remained the same. What was the reason for putting in half a slice of cheese in instead of the full size?
The Filet-o-Fish has always been served with a half slice of cheese. McDonald's feels it's the right amount of cheese to balance the various ingredients and tastes of the Filet-o-Fish sandwich. (September 2009)

2. Hi Please can you confirm if Mcdonalds Fillet o fish is suitable for a halal diet ie. no meat or alcohol in any of the ingredients. Also, are your fries suitable for a halal diet? please advise. Regards Fatima
No, the Filet-o-Fish meals are not Halal. Currently, McDonald’s does not classify any of the items on its menu as Halal, though the fries are certainly vegetarian. However, McDonald's is trialing a few Halal menu items in its Southall restaurant in London. (October 2007) SEPTEMBER '09 TRIAL RESULT: McDonald’s began this trial because we wanted to assess customer demand for certified Halal food in our UK restaurants. We have learnt that Halal is only popular with a very small percentage of our customers and to offer it we would need to make significant changes to our kitchen procedures and supply chain. Given this, we have decided that we are not currently in a position to roll out Halal food in the UK.

McDonald's does not regard the Filet-o-Fish as suitable for vegetarians because the company classifies fish as meat. A full list of the McDonald's menu items suitable for vegetarians is available online at www.mcdonaldsmenu.info or on the back of the tray liners in restaurants. 4. IS FILLET-O-FISH VEGETARIAN. According to your answers is questions 4 & 5 I would say yes. Then I reead the answer of question 8 & now have doubts as it says ''The Filet-o-Fish does not contain any meat ingredients; however, it is not certified as being suitable for vegetarians due to the oil filtering process in restaurants. (December 2007)'' So has the filtering process now changed? making the Filet-o-fish Vegetarian???
Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all. McDonald's does not regard the Filet-o-Fish as suitable for vegetarians because the company classifies fish as a meat. The company considers it a personal choice as to whether a vegetarian chooses to eat fish. With regards to the frying process, each product is prepared in separate fryers. However, when it comes to filtering the oil, McDonald's has two different filtering processes. One process is self-filtering, where oil is not mixed from one fryer to another. The second filtering process uses the same unit across all fryers, but the fryers are filtered in a specific order. So the French Fries fryer is filtered first, followed by the Veggie Deluxe fryer, the Apple Pies fryer, the chicken fryer and then the Filet-o-Fish fryer. The machine is thoroughly cleaned after every filtering session and the Vegetarian Society has approved this method for keeping oil used to cook the fries separate from any meat content. Unfortunately the company does not maintain a central record of the processes used in each restaurant, so if this is an issue for you please contact the restaurant prior to your visit or speak to the restaurant manager to find out which method that particular restaurant uses.
