- 1. Is the Fillet-O-Fish Halal?(i.e, is the fish cooked in a seperate oil to the burgers?)
-
Currently, McDonald's UK sells no Halal food, as the company lacks the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the requirements. The Filet-o-Fish is freshly cooked in a new non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil in a separate fryer. When it comes to filtering oil, McDonald's has two different types of filtering processes - although the company does not maintain a central record of the processes used in each restaurant. One process is self-filtering where oil will not be mixed from one fryer to another. The second filtering process uses the same unit across all fryers but the fryers are filtered in a specific order. So the French Fries fryer is filtered first, followed by the Veggie Deluxe fryer, the Apple Pies fryer, the chicken fryer and then the Filet-o-Fish fryer. The machine is thoroughly cleaned after every filtering session.

No, Filet-o-Fish meals are not Halal. While the fish is cooked in its own blend of non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil, in a dedicated fryer, it has not been blessed by an imam. When it comes to filtering oil, McDonald’s has two different types of filtering processes - although the company does not maintain a central record of the processes used in each restaurant. One process is self-filtering where oil will not be mixed from one fryer to another. The second filtering process uses the same unit across all fryers but the fryers are filtered in a specific order. At the moment, McDonald's UK lacks the necessary infrastructure throughout its supply chain to guarantee the requirements of Halal while ensuring the company retains its high standards of welfare, ingredient quality, etc. However, it is something McDonald's is looking into against a number of considerations - both customer and company related. You will be happy to hear that McDonald's is trialing Halal chicken at a restaurant in Southall, London. Click here for more information: http://www.makeupyourownmind.co.uk/our-halal-trial.html.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 5. I find the slaughter of Halal meat both inhumane and barbaric. I'm sure that a large number of your customers feel the same. Why are you so keen to appease Islam but offend the silent majority? Before you can accuse me of being a member of the far right I'd like to point out that I am in fact black.
-
It's worth noting that the high animal welfare standards employed for the slaughter of animals within the McDonald's supply chain is not compromised in any way by the requirements of Halal. The RSPCA and other animal welfare experts as well as the Halal Food Authority have been involved to ensure that all standards continue to be met. The one-restaurant trial is based in a predominantly Muslim area of London and the company has received many requests for more Halal options on the menu. That's why a trial is in hand for the chicken range menu items. It has been set up to look not only at the infrastructure and logistics involved in such an initiative but will also garner the views of all members of the local community. If all of the criteria set are met and a decision to roll this out on a greater scale is taken, only certain restaurants will take up the option and always in sites where there is a non-Halal restaurant within a ten minute drive. Customers can then decide for themselves as to which restaurant they choose to visit. Please feel free to add your views to the specific Halal trial comments section by going to: http://www.makeupyourownmind.co.uk/halal-survey.html; everyone's point of view will be taken into consideration before a final decision is taken.

And same goes with the mc flurry or any other ice cream served at mc donalds. Please also tell me if french fries,fillet-o-fish and all ice creams served at all uk mc donalds are halal. THANKYOU.

None of the items on the menu at McDonald's are certified as Kosher or Halal, including those vegetarian items such as the fries or icecream, because of the additional requirements for halal certification beyond purely consideration of ingredients. However, McDonald's has a Halal chicken trial underway at a restaurant in Southall, London. Click here for more information: http://www.makeupyourownmind.co.uk/our-halal-trial.html.

No, while items such as the fries or shakes are of course vegetarian, none of McDonald's food is officially certified Halal. The company does not have the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the Halal requirements. However, you will be happy to hear that McDonald's launched a trial of Halal chicken at a restaurant in Southall, London. What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 8. If Halal items are introduced as a regular part of the menu, will we be given the option to be served with normal products?
-
A trial is being conducted at one McDonald's restaurant. As it's a trial to look into the feasibility of offering Halal chicken (and fish) menu items to customers that would like this option, the company is not offering non-Halal versions of these items at the trial restaurant. If the trial is extended to other restaurants, one of the stipulations will be that there is a non-Halal McDonald's restaurant within a suitable driving distance to satisfy any customers that might want non-Halal chicken items. If you'd like to read more about this trial and add further comments, please click on this link ‘Our Halal Trial’. (July 2007)

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 9. Why is McDonald’s considering and even trialling Halal meat in a Christian country? I find this grossly inconsiderate to the majority of the English people who are Christian and would have issues with eating meat prepared in such a way. What would you say if, finding it a success in one store, you decide to use it in all stores, and then Christians decide to stop eating at your restaurants?

McDonald's prides itself on the role it takes in each local community and its business is driven by listening to customers in order to provide the food and service they want. You might have noticed on this site alone, there are a number of questions asking about Halal food options. In response to this, McDonald's, as you quite rightly state, has put Halal procedures in place for its chicken menu items to test whether this is welcomed by the local community and whether it is sustainable. In evaluating the trial's success, all views from the local community will be taken into consideration. And, should it prove successful, the plan would be to offer Halal food only in those restaurants that have a requirement for this and are within a ten minute drive of a restaurant serving non-Halal food. in that way, McDonald's hopes to make as many of its customers happy as possible.

This website was specifically designed as an open forum to deal with issues surrounding McDonald's UK. As such the company cannot really comment on the practices of McDonald's Australia. However, if you are interested, take a look at the Australian version of this website. The URL for this site is www.makeupyourownmind.com.au.

What are these? Delicious Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon - 12. I am dismayed to read that you are 'considering making your products halal.' Is McDonalds trying to appeal to a Muslim audience in particular? I am a meat eater but wouldn't be willing to buy meat slaughtered in this way because I believe it to be cruel. I'm pleased you're answering your critics but this is a step too far! I'm disappointed that you are pandering to this minority audience and would be interested as to why you are doing this...does your MR suggest this is adviseable?
-
The Halal issue is complex. McDonald's is currently reviewing the possibility of introducing some Halal products in its restaurants; however no decision has yet been reached. It is also unlikely that this would involve a wholesale conversion of meat to Halal and more likely that a specific range would be introduced so you would not have to eat Halal meat if you did not wish to.

-
Sorry you feel this way, the Halal issue is something that McDonald's in the UK is giving serious consideration; the issues involved are complex and demand a lot of attention. A decision will be made when all the facts have been fully reviewed.

-
At the moment, McDonald's UK lacks the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the requirements of Halal. However, it is something the company is currently looking into. So neither the donuts nor Fanta are Halal. McDonald's Chocolate Donuts are suitable for vegetarians but Fanta is not, due to the fish oil used as a carrier for the orange colour.
