- 1. Is it true that no items on the menu are vegan? What are you putting in the fries and cokes then? And can I have a real answer, not a stock phrase please!
-
McDonald's does sell menu items that could possibly be classed as vegan. However, it is not possible to categorically say that any McDonald's product is 100 percent vegan, because some of the ingredients are processed. With all food processing there is always the possibility of cross-contamination with non-vegan ingredients at some point in the supply chain. The Coke contains, carbonated water, sugar, colour (E150d caramel), phosphoric acid, flavourings and caffeine. The Fries contain potatoes (cooked in non-hydrogenated rapeseed and sunflower oil with no added flavourings), dextrose (only added at beginning of season). Salt is added after cooking.
DECEMBER '07 UPDATE: McDonald's French Fries are now fully accredited by the Vegetarian Society. (December 2007)
FEBRUARY '08 UPDATE: McDonald’s UK now do not use any hydrogenated oil in any food items across the entire menu

Based on the ingredients of your products, there *are* some that are suitable for vegans. A search for "vegan" on this site shows that you are saying nothing is suitable. This is untrue and means that you are turning customers away. Why are you saying and doing this?

McDonald’s is primarily a burger restaurant. It is the aim of the company to provide as much choice and value for all its customers as possible, however the nature of the business restricts the company for providing out and out vegan items on the menu. The company has made a decision to get some of the products approved by the Vegetarian Society, but not to go the full vegan route. If you would like more extensive information on ingredients and nutritional value on all McDonald’s food, please visit www.mcdonaldsmenu.info, or go to the ‘Ingredients List’ or the ‘Nutritional Counter’ which are in the ‘Eat Smart’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

-
The Fruit Bag is fruit (75 percent apple and 25 percent grape). McDonald’s has taken the decision not to certify any of its products as vegan because it feels the distinction between vegan and vegetarian products could potentially be confusing to customers. The Vegetarian Society has approved several items on the menu, including the Fruit Bag.

There are some people like myself who find it weird to eat beef or cruelly drink cow's milk (food that was meant for the calf). Don't you think its about time you look at things from this persepctive?
-
The reason why McDonald’s has not certified any products as vegan is to avoid wider confusion among customers wanting vegetarian options. McDonald’s does however have several items approved by The Vegetarian Society . While McDonald’s would respect your opinion, its belief is that meat and dairy products plays an important part in a balanced diet.

Technically, no, they are not officially certified as suitable for vegans. A full breakdown of all McDonald’s ingredients is available online in the ‘Eat Smart’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk or on the back of tray liners in restaurants.
