16. How long will it be before you offer free range chicken. Also, could you offer more vegetarian options - most vegetarians love quorn -could you incorporate that into burgers etc.
Firstly apologies for the delay in answering your question, the team has been very busy with all the questions that are pouring in and everybody is working hard to answer them all. McDonald’s is constantly reviewing the production methods of the poultry used for its chicken based food products. At the moment the market for free range chicken meat production is very small, and the cost therefore prohibitive. But McDonald’s is working closely with research organisations such as the Food Animal Initiative, who are developing alternative production methods for chicken which aim to provide a more welfare-friendly system on a large commercial scale. In the meantime, McDonald's, like other responsible food businesses, is concentrating on working with producers and welfare experts to provide and good welfare conditions for the birds that allow them to display their natural behavior in comfortable surroundings. Regarding Quorn, McDonald’s used to offer The Quorn Premier on its menu. Unfortunately this was not very popular with customers when it was on sale, and as a result it was withdrawn. McDonald’s is sorry to hear you’re not happy with the menu selection. If you would like to see something introduced to the menu, please contact the Customer Services Team by visiting the Contact Us' section on www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (November 2008)

17. hi, i just want to know whether if any of the food from mcdonald is vegetarian? if so which one is it ? and which ones are not i.e. fish-o-fillet and why????
McDonald's current menu offers a variety of food items that are suitable for vegetarians, including the French Fries - which are cooked in 100 percent vegetable oil and approved by the Vegetarian Society - and the Garden Side Salad. There are also snack options such as the Fruit Bag and Carrot Sticks. The filet-O-fish is not certified as suitable for vegetarians as it contains fish. Please note that the Spicy Veggie Deli and Veggie Deluxe burger are not Vegetarian Society approved food items even though they contain no animal products, this is due to the possibility of cross contamination with oil from the chicken/fish vats during the oil filtering process. There's a full list of which of McDonald's products are vegetarian-friendly on the back of every tray liner. You can also visit www.mcdonalds.co.uk for more information. Just click on the ‘Food’ section then ‘Ingredients’. If you would like to see more vegetarian options on the menu, please contact the Customer Service Team via email with suggestions. 18. You say that the Qourn burger was taken off the menu as it was not very popular. I have seen a number of requests for it to come back so it was not as un populaur as you say it was. Also my local MCDONALDS do not do the veggie delux and i hate cheese so cant have the melt. Now if i go into your resturant what can i have? Dont say Fries as that is not a meal.
McDonald's is sorry to hear you're not happy with the menu selection. The Vegetarian Deluxe is available where the demand is high and the Quorn Burger was removed as it really didn't prove popular with customers. McDonald's listens to and strives to keep up with the needs and expectations of its customer and many suggestions have been taken onboard and are now available in the restaurants. If you would like to see something introduced to the menu, please contact the Customer Services Team by visiting the ‘Contact Us’ section on www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (October 2007)

19. Why have you removed the vegetarian burger from your menu in Ireland?
The Veggie Deluxe is still available, but only in restaurants where the demand is high. If this is an issue you feel strongly about, please contact the Customer Service Team by visiting the ‘Contact Us’ link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. Meanwhile, on the current menu you will find the following vegetarian options: Garden Side Salad, Carrot Sticks, Fruit Bags, French Fries and Hash Browns. 20. Does McDonalds have any plans to extended it range of vegi food? I really like the soya type burgers which are more chewy than the bean ones. Please make some of them for me !! thanks
Unfortunately, there are no plans to introduce a soya burger to the menu at the moment. A Quorn burger was trialled, but it didn’t prove as popular as the company would have liked and was removed from the menu. McDonald’s is constantly reviewing its menu and if you have any suggestions, let the Customer Service Team know online via the 'Contact Us' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

21. I'm vegetarian, used to love the veggieburgers. happy to see veggie deli on menu. To say it's suitable for vegetarians it can't have been fried in same oil used for meat. Veggies, religious or otherwise, are trusting you. Do you use separate fryer?
All ingredients in the Vegetable Deluxe, Spicy Veggie Deli and Apple Pie are suitable for vegetarians (i.e. contain no ingredients of animal origin). The vegetable patty and apple pies are cooked in dedicated vat(s) using a non hydrogenated blend of rapeseed and sunflower oil (which is suitable for vegetarians). However, due to the design of the oil filtration system there is a small chance the oil used to fry vegetable patties and Apple Pies can become in contact with oil used to cook chicken and fish products during the oil filtering process. We therefore cannot guarantee cross-contamination will not occur. McDonald's French Fries have been officially accredited by the Vegetarian Society. This is because they are cooked in dedicated frying vats, with a completely separate filtering unit.

22. Why is the new spicy veggie sandwich not vegetarian society approved? Is the product suitable? Is the process of preparation suitable? Is the lack of certification not a backward step.

23. I'm disappointed that you did not answer my question properly and instead pushed me on to a differnt answer. The answer you pushed me towards has annoyed me more with this quote. "Other vegetarian options currently available include the French Fires, Hash browns, Salads, Fruit Bags, Apple Pies, Carrot Sticks and milkshakes." The fact that you say the vegetarian options you offer are side portions or extras to what non vegetarians can get with their meals.
Although at its heart, McDonald’s primary business will always be in burgers, it goes without saying that customers are very important to the company, and McDonald's works hard to accommodate them all as best as it possibly can, including vegetarians. However the company recognises there is always room for improvement and in view of this suggests you should get in touch with the Customer Services Team to log your enthusiasm for more vegetarian options. You can get in touch with them by email using the ‘Contact Us’ link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk - the team will be happy to hear your suggestions. (March 2010)

24. You state that you believe you "offer a good variety of food items suitable for vegetarians". Yet "Primary business will always be in burgers". This is a little contradictory, isn't it? Yes, people go to McDonalds for a burger. How about offering an actual *burger* we can eat? All over this page - how nice the Quorn Premiere was and how disgusting the current (non-burger!) offering of the deli sandwich is. It may not have sold well the first time around, but it is obvious there IS a demand!
Thank you for your question. Currently, McDonald’s believes it offers a good variety of food items that are suitable for vegetarians, including the French Fries and Milkshakes - which are certified by the Vegetarian Society and the Garden Side Salad. There are also snack options available such as the Fruit Bag and Carrot Sticks. Indeed there have been many requests to bring back the Quorn Premier but sadly it was withdrawn, as it wasn’t generally popular with customers. McDonald’s is constantly reviewing its menu options, in particular the vegetarian items, and any specific requests or suggestions should be made to the Customer Services by visiting the ‘Contact Us’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

25. All over the answers to all vegetarian complaints, you say that you are looking and revising the vegetarian menu. You say that you had a "wide" range when you have four selections: " Veggie Deluxe burger, the Grilled Veggie Melt Toasted Deli Sandwich, the Garden Salad, and of course the French Fries". This isn't up to standard. As part of remodeling itself, shouldn't McDonald's be approaching a serious vegetarian menu?
McDonald’s is primarily a burger restaurant. It is the aim of the company to provide as much choice and value for all of its customers as possible. As you mention, McDonald’s believes that it offers a good variety of food items that are suitable for vegetarians. Further, it aims to keep in tune with the needs and demands of its customers and conducts regular reviews of its menu in an effort to ensure choice and value. However, the company recognises there is always room for improvement and in view of this suggests you should get in touch with the Customer Services Team to log your enthusiasm for more vegetarian options by calling 08705 244622.

26. I've recently noticed that the veggie melt is no longer on the menu at any of the mcdonalds I've been to recently. Do you only offer a melt or veggie burger and not both at any restaurant? It would be nice to have a veggie choice.
Thank you for your question. Menu items are constantly being reviewed due to changing customer tastes and preferences. McDonald's found that customers didn't respond well to the Grilled Veggie Melt and so it was taken off the menu. The Veggie Deluxe is still available, but only in restaurants where the demand is high, however the Spicy Veggie Deli is a permanent menu item and should be available at most restaurants. If you have any other menu suggestions, you can contact the Customer Services Team on 08705 244622 or visit the 'Contact Us' section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk.

27. Must you persist in selling the "Vegemush" in every vegetarian meal, why not try alternatives? Look at things from a vegetarians perspective, if I take my (meat eating) kids to McDonald’s, I have one choice on the menu deep fried vegetables with salad served on either brown or white bread.. That’s it, not really a choice is it? Yes I know that fries are suitable and so is salad.. But hardly a meal is it?
McDonald’s is disappointed to hear you aren’t enjoying the Spicy Veggie Deli. It goes without saying that vegetarian customers are very important to the company and McDonald's works hard to accommodate them as best as it possibly can. With regards to other available vegetarian options, the Veggie Deluxe is still available however only in restaurants where the demand for it is high. Other vegetarian options currently available include the French Fires, Hash browns, Salads, Fruit Bags, Apple Pies, Carrot Sticks and Milkshakes. If you feel strongly about seeing more vegetarian options on the menu, please email McDonald's using the 'Contact Us' link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. The team will be happy to hear your suggestions.

28. I have noticed you do not do a very good vegetarian menu. Would you ever consider making Quorn versions of your classics? Quorn big mac, cheeseburger etc... I have spoken to a lot of people who said they would really like this as everyone always assumes vegetarians want lettuce and mayo or something spicy! Plus non vegetarians say they would love to eat something that tastes like an old favourite but healthier.
Thank you for your question and we’re sorry that you feel unhappy with the current vegetarian menu options. A Quorn Burger was introduced to our menu, but it didn’t prove as popular as the company would have liked and was removed from the menu. We have introduced to the menu the Spicy Veggie Toasted Deli Sandwich. Currently, McDonald’s believes it offers a good variety of food items that are suitable for vegetarians, including the French Fries - which are cooked in 100 percent vegetable oil - the Vegetable Deluxe burger (where available), the Toasted Deli Spicy Veggie Sandwich and the Garden Side Salad. 29. Out of the many burgers you sell containing your dead meat why is it that you cannot at least comment on the possibility of creating ONE vegetarian burger out of your many meat ones?? Please do not give me an answer telling me to look at the back of a tray, as you have with other veggie questions. Because I looked yesterday. Yes I know you sell veggie chips, side salad and a deli but why not the possibility of a new veggie/soya burger?
Thank you for your question and we’re sorry that you feel unhappy with the current vegetarian menu options. Unfortunately, there are no plans to introduce a soya burger to the menu at the moment. A Quorn Burger was introduced to our menu, but it didn’t prove as popular as the company would have liked and was removed from the menu. We have introduced to the menu the Spicy Veggie Toasted Deli Sandwich, which has replaced the Veggie Melt. If you think McDonald's could improve its vegetarian options, your suggestions would be welcome. Contact the Customer Team via email at www.mcdonalds.co.uk, just click on the 'Contact Us' link. 30. Why is there only one vegetarian food option in your restaurants? Where ever I go to McDonalds, there only ever seems to be one type of veggie deli sandwich and I'd love to see more choice, as nice as they are , It would be nice to have more variety!
