31. ive been reading alot of the questions previously asked& ive noticed that it is constantly stated that the veggi deluxe is very popular, cud this be cuz its the only real veg option? It is truely vile, yet i hav found myself ordering it as i have been out with friends, can there not be more trial veg burgers? The ones on offer at the moment are awful!maybe another quorn burger, not the same as b4, my family& friends have eaten alot of quorn products and often say they cant tell the difference!
Sorry to hear you feel that way. Although at its heart, McDonald’s primary business will always be in burgers, it goes without saying that customers are very important to the company, and McDonald's works hard to accommodate them all as best as it possibly can, including vegetarians. Currently, McDonald’s believes it offers a good variety of food items that are suitable for vegetarians, including the French Fries - which are cooked in 100 percent vegetable oil - the Vegetable Deluxe burger (where available), the Toasted Deli Spicy Veggie Sandwich and the Garden Side Salad. There are also snack options such as the Fruit Bag and Carrot Sticks. However, the company recognises that there is always room for improvement and in light of this suggests you should get in touch with the Customer Services Team to log your enthusiasm for more vegetarian options. You can get in touch with them by email using the ‘Contact Us’ link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. The team will be happy to hear your suggestions. With regards to Quorn, McDonald’s introduced a Quorn Premier Burger some time ago, however it wasn’t very popular. Again if you’d like to see this product return, please get in touch with Customer Services using the aforementioned details. (Jan 09)

32. why is there no real vegetarian happy meal? Not all vegetarians eat fish, so i wouldnt class the fish fingers as vegetarian. Also i have often ordered grills such as buns dressed as cheese burgers with no meat, mainly because of how flat the vegetarian menu is, and i have had to pay full price!! Why isnt there more of a selection?
A vegetarian Happy Meal has been trialled before but didn't prove popular at the time. However, McDonald's is always working hard to provide its customers with as much choice and value as possible and this is no different for vegetarian customers. Beyond this, McDonald's is aware that there some new additions would be greatly appreciated. New recipes and products are always be trialled and tested by McDonald's so please check out the menu from time to time for new items appearing in the future. With regards to your special Cheeseburger order, the reason the order is priced the same as a standard cheeseburger is because restaurant tills are only designed to accommodate current menu items, therefore although crew are happy to prepare special requests, they must charge you for a standard item. 33. So far you have received many questions about the veggie deluxe. Instead of wasting your time answering them why not just put it back on the menu again? Also, how come there aren't any bogofs or offers on veggie items?
Thank you for your question. The Veggie Deluxe is available on the menu, but only at certain restaurants where demand is high. In answer to the second part of your question, McDonald’s does occasionally provide offers that relate to Vegetarian items, such as the Coca Cola glass promotion, that was free with a large salad in the summer. However, at its heart McDonald’s are a burger restaurant, so the majority of the offers are focused on the core products available on the menu. If you feel this is something you would like to see changed then please get in touch with the Customer Services Team via the 'Contact Us' section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. They will be happy to hear your feedback and opinions. (Jan 09)

34. Hi. As a muslim, can I eat your fillet of fish? Is the burger used suitable for vegetarians? Does this meal contain anything unsuitable for a vegetarian diet? Thanks
If you are referring to Halal, McDonald’s UK lacks the necessary infrastructure throughout its supply chain to guarantee the requirements of Halal while ensuring the company retains its high standards of welfare, ingredients quality, etc. In regards to the Filet-o-Fish, McDonald’s considers it a personal choice as to whether a vegetarian eats fish or not. The Filet-o-Fish is cooked in vegetable oil and apart from the fish itself, it does not contain any other animal flesh or by-product. Meanwhile the burgers that contain beef and chicken are not suitable for vegetarians. Other options for vegetarians include the Vegetarian Deluxe burger (where demand is high), the Spicy Veggie Deli Sandwich, French Fries, Hash Browns, Pancakes and Syrup, Bagels, Oatso Simple, Garden Salad, Ice Cream, Carrot Sticks, Fruit Bags, Blueberry Muffins, Muffins and various beverages. The full nutritional breakdown for all McDonald’s food is available online, just select the ‘Food’ section of www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (August 2008) SEPTEMBER '09 TRIAL RESULT: McDonald’s began this trial because we wanted to assess customer demand for certified Halal food in our UK restaurants. We have learnt that Halal is only popular with a very small percentage of our customers and to offer it we would need to make significant changes to our kitchen procedures and supply chain. Given this, we have decided that we are not currently in a position to roll out Halal food in the UK.

35. after reading your answers about veggie options you mention the veggie deluxe burger alot this is not available at any of my local restaurants and im getting a bit sick of fillet o fish and dont like the veggie deli thingy. Can u tell me if going to be available nationwide Thanks
The Vegetable Deluxe is still being sold in restaurants where the management feel that there is sufficient demand for it. This limits the amount of restaurants where you may be able to purchase it. However, McDonald’s is always monitoring its menu and the choices available to all customers. If you feel strongly about seeing more vegetarian options on the menu, please email McDonald's using the 'Contact Us' link at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. In the mean time, there are still some other tasty menu items available that are suitable for vegetarians, such as the Garden Side Salad, all of the Milkshakes and McDonald's French Fries, which are accredited with the Vegetarian Society seal of approval. 36. Can you please explain why the following are not suitable for vegetarians? Filet-o-fish, fish fingers, smarties mc flurry, fanta orange. A lot of people are asking questions regarding these, and a lot of the Muslim community are avoiding eating these. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
Whilst the Filet-o-Fish and Fish Fingers do not contain any animal flesh or by-product there is a very small possibility that the vegetable cooking oil used may be mixed with vegetable cooking oil used to cook chicken products during the oil filtration process. There are two different methods for filtering frying oils across McDonald's restaurants: the first utilises self-filtering vats fitted in its kitchens and the oil from each frying station is filtered into a separate container. So French Fry oil goes into one container, with Veggie Patty, Filet-o-Fish, chicken menu items and Apple Pies into another. If the restaurant does not have self filtering vats the second method is used whereby the oil is filtered into one container but in a specific order. So the French Fries fryer is filtered first, followed by the Veggie Deluxe fryer, the Apple Pies fryer, the chicken fryer and then the Filet-o-Fish fryer. At the end of the filtering session, the machine is cleaned ready for the next day’s operation. McDonald's considers it a personal choice as to whether a vegetarian eats fish or not. Fanta is not suitable for vegetarians due to the fish oil used as a carrier for the orange colour. This applies to all Fanta not just that supplied to McDonald's. With regards to the Nestle Smarties McFlurry, the red Smarties contain E120 cochineal, a natural colour sourced from the cochineal beetle, making them unsuitable for vegetarians or anyone concerned about products of animal origin. If you would like to see a full list of ingredients for all food and drink sold in McDonald's restaurants, please visit www.mcdonalds.co.uk. (December 2008)

37. Why do you not have any vegetarian main meal options in the happy meal? This does not affect me but when I was younger it did and so will also be the case for young children at the moment. Children are a very large percentage of your customers surely? It may seem petty to adults but young veggies should be able to enjoy the little toys etc just as other kids and feel they fit in. Also, reading other people's comments,I'm 100% am behind the point that the Quorn burgers need to make a come back!

However if you would like to make a case for a Vegetarian Happy Meal and the return of Quorn burgers, please contact the Customer Services Team via the ‘Contact Us’ section on www.mcdonalds.co.uk. The team are always keen to hear your suggestions. (Jan 09)

38. I am vegetarian and on a recent visit to a McDonalds restaurant was disappointed to find that after 8pm you no longer serve deli sandwiches and as this is the only vegetarian option in the majority of McDonalds I have visited my friends and I left still hungry. I would like to know why this is and also why the Vegetarian Deluxe burger was removed from the menu?
McDonald’s are sorry to learn of your disappointment at being unable to purchase a Toasted Deli Sandwich at the time of your visit. The company hopes that you can appreciate that during later times, when custom is slower and staff levels are reduced, the available menu items will become limited so that the products that are the most popular with the majority of customers are readily available and prepared. This in turn will result in some products, such as the Toasted Deli Sandwiches being unavailable as part of the main menu after 8pm. With regards to the Vegetable Deluxe, the product is still available, but only at restaurants where demand is high; therefore it does not appear on the menus as standard. (Jan 09)

40. hi,i'm a muslim and im not sure about your food,i'm a vegeterian but i'mallowed fish and the stuff has to be alcohol free so can u please send me a list of what i'm allowed.
If you are referring to Halal, currently, McDonald's UK sells no Halal food, as the company lacks the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the requirements. It is something the company is currently looking at, however. The Filet-o-Fish is cooked in its own non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil in a separate part of the kitchen, away from other food items. When it comes to filtering oil, McDonald's has two different types of filtering processes - although the company does not maintain a central record of the processes used in each restaurant. One process is self-filtering where oil will not be mixed from one fryer to another. The second filtering process uses the same unit across all fryers but the fryers are filtered in a specific order. So the French Fries fryer is filtered first, followed by the Veggie Deluxe fryer, the Apple Pies fryer, the chicken fryer and then the Filet-o-Fish fryer. The machine is thoroughly cleaned after every filtering session. All the milkshakes are suitable for vegetarians who eat dairy. The vegetarian menu offers the Veggie Deluxe burger, the Grilled Veggie Melt toasted sandwich, salads and other items such as Carrot Sticks. The French Fries are also suitable for vegetarians. And none of McDonald's products contain alcohol. JUNE '07 UPDATE: McDonald's trials Halal chicken at a restaurant in Southall, London. (June 2007) DECEMBER '07 UPDATE: McDonald's French Fries are now fully accredited by the Vegetarian Society. (December 2007) FEBRUARY '08 UPDATE: McDonald’s UK now do not use any hydrogenated oil in any food items across the entire menu SEPTEMBER '09 TRIAL RESULT: McDonald’s began this trial because we wanted to assess customer demand for certified Halal food in our UK restaurants. We have learnt that Halal is only popular with a very small percentage of our customers and to offer it we would need to make significant changes to our kitchen procedures and supply chain. 41. why dont you have a better selection of vegetarian/halal meals?
McDonald's UK lacks the necessary infrastructure in its supply chain to guarantee the requirements of Halal. It is something the company is currently looking at with a trial being run in Southall. For vegetarians, McDonald's is constantly reviewing its menu options, and any specific requests or suggestions should be made to Customer Services by visiting the ‘Contact Us’ section at www.mcdonalds.co.uk. 42. I'm a vegetarian. Considering that there is such a huge vegetarian population in the UK I find it very surprising that you do so few options (Which insidentally are NOT very nice options,or options that can be cooked in 5 minutes at home for cheaper). Why not?Oh, by the way, Chicken and Fish are NOT vegetarian options.
McDonald’s is sorry to hear you feel that way. 43. why, in this day and age, do you not do a wider variety of vegetarian burgers or alternatives. Many people , including myself, do not eat at your restaurants because of this.
Some of the McDonald's menu items are suitable for vegetarians, including the fries - which are cooked in 100 percent vegetable oil, the grilled roasted vegetable deli sandwich which is approved by The Vegetarian Society. The Veggie Deluxe is also still being sold in certain restaurants where it remains popular. There's a full list of which of McDonald’s products are vegetarian-friendly on the back of every tray liner and online at www.mcdonaldsmenu.info.
