Rainforest Alliance Tea
On 27th March, McDonald's announced that it is giving further backing to Rainforest Alliance certification by offering a cup of tea with a conscience in all of its 1,200 restaurants in the UK.
Over the coming year, McDonald's expects to buy enough PG tips tea to make 24 million cups - equating to a cup of tea for more than 1 in 3 people in the UK. McDonald's already sources all of its coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, and now uses semi-skimmed organic milk in all hot drinks.
Response from Jill McDonald, Senior Vice President, Marketing, McDonald's Restaurants Ltd
"As the biggest UK high street chain to sell tea and coffee from Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM farms as well as organic milk in hot drinks, we will offer a win-win for our customers who get a great tasting, independently certified product without paying a price premium. It's also a welcome move for growers, their communities and the environment, all of which benefit from the improved conditions that Rainforest Alliance certification brings."
The Rainforest Alliance is an independent and internationally renowned non-profit organisation and only farms that meet specific standards balancing all aspects of production, including protecting the environment, the rights and welfare of workers and the interest of coffee-growing communities are awarded certification.
