TFA’s & Hydrogenated Oil

McDonald’s UK is now using a new non-hydrogenated cooking oil in its restaurants, reducing the levels of Trans Fatty Acids to the lowest possible levels of less than 2% (natural trans-fats mean it is not possible to reach 0%). The new blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil has been developed without needing to raise saturated fat content or alter the taste, which research has shown is important to customers.

FEBRUARY '08 UPDATE: McDonald's UK now do not use any hydrogenated oil in any food items across the entire menu.

“It is great news that McDonald’s has reduced TFAs in its cooking oils to the lowest possible level. TFAs are linked to heart disease so eliminating the use of partially hydrogenated oils will help reduce the risk and have a beneficial effect on McDonald’s customers.”
